    TRAINING ENCOUNTER

Post  MAS on Mon Feb 10, 2014 2:41 pm

The Wizard Nokore, once charged with keeping safe the forbidden scrolls of Teun, had fallen prey to the temptation of power and glory. He looked unready at the message written there, and fell prey to the dark whispers held within its words. Mad with the taint of it's evil, he marshalled an army and made war against the Just Kingdom of Saigo.

Taen Don, the King Priest of the Saigo, was a humble and honorable man who feared for the safety of his people. He called for the Heroes of Golla Tower, and they had come, and pledged to stem Nokore's advance, they had set forth.

Many leagues did they travel, Nokore's minions hounding their every step. Undeterred, and guided by the Seer of Aon, they searched to find an artifact of ancient origin that may hold the power to defeat Nokore.

Deep into hidden caverns beneath the ruins of the Poen Sa Monastery, they delved, and fought, and conquered the guardian beasts within. Triumphant!

The sphere safely in hand, they made haste to break the siege and defeat Nokore for good.

A single day from their goal, exhausted from their desperate cross country flight to deliver the good people of Saigo, they prepare to make camp for a few hours. In order to prepare for the battle against Nokore, they seek respite by the roadside. A small fire and the last of their rations for comfort.

What is that sound? A high pitched keening, a ripping, a tearing, a grinding, a roar.  A THUNDERCLAP!

A bright flash of sickly light. A wind is suddenly blowing, towards the sound, towards the twirling lights, towards...a portal?

Faster than sight, 2 creatures appear as if launched from the spinning chaos. The wind stops, dead calm. A stench of sulfur, rot, and blood.

Maniacal smiles twist the faces of their ram horned, ape like heads. Covered in filthy brown fur matted with a foul ichor, standing on cloven hooves, they crouch with a predatory anticipation...

"THE SEED!" cries one, in a hoarse growl. "MINE!" hisses the other.

    Roll for initiative.

    what program are you using?

In PP, you can drop in any image and adjust its size, change it color, etc.

    I can carry the sphere

You're the Ninja, you tell me!

JK - it seemed like a good place to put him...out of sight, under cover, on a flank. If the tactical explanation doesnt jive for you....then he was out copping a squat.

Ok, cool, just asking.  You can always crop it to just a head shot too.  It really ruins my sense of immersion to see a grey square with a letter on it.  I feel no connection to this artificial proxy.

The scenario allows the party an advantage by granting the Ninja a hidden status at the beginning of the encounter. Kindly play on.

Initiative order is as follows -

    Ninja - 22 (currently hidden)
    Monk - 19
    Creature 1 -17
    Truly Immersed Sorcerer - 16
    Fighter - 15
    Druid -12
    Creature 2 - 9

Lini's placement is fine, but her animal companion needs to be adjacent to her.

Also, Lini would have started the day by casting goodberry, She currently has five of them.

She can have the sphere if no one else wants it.

Druid's animal companion is on the map, Good berry is good to go.

    Sorcerer has the Sphere

"THE SEED!" bellows Creature 1...it lunges forward as if to charge!

    - BEAST IS APPROACHING-

Monk readied action trigger condition has been met, there is definitely forward movement in the beast.

Is the Monk moving to intercept, or is the intent to conduct the attack action at the end of the Creature's move?

This was a little hinky, in that the conditions were simply stated as "creature advances", which it was in fact doing, BUT, it was not advancing into a melee attack, and stopped short to take its standard action just short of the Monk's 5 ft step range.

Since the readied action was a holdover from a higher initiative rank, GM ruling is that the readied action will not interrupt the creatures action, but the Monk may take his full actions immediately following the completion of the creatures actions or at any point later in the round.

The Monk prepares to move directly into the path of the creature's advance, judging speed and distance so that he may devastate the beast with a barrage of martial strikes...

But wait! The creature pulls up short (like when a gorilla or ape does a "display" charge to test an opponent), then stops abruptly.

(Standard movement within it's allowed speed).

Its hideous, clawed hands now glowing black....it gestures towards the monk in a twisting, crushing motion....

A web of swirling, black glow surrounds the Monk, and he feels a crushing suffocation close around him, as if he is encased in an unseen weight.

Please state when Monk would like to take held action -

Monk fails WILL SAVE vs spell like ability: SLOW
    Condition - STAGGERED, Duration - 8 ROUNDS

"A staggered creature may take a single move action or standard action each round (but not both, nor can he take full-round actions). A staggered creature can still take free, swift and immediate actions."

SORCERER on deck / Next pending Monk's statement of when he is acting.

Seoni weaves an arcane pattern in the air, making quick slashing movements, as if painting a Chinese character with a rapier. The azure tattoos that adorn her body begin to glow brightly with the energy of her most advanced magic.

Haste spell, centered on Fighter, who is within 30' of all other party members. Seoni can Haste 7 allies, including the Druid's pet and the whole party. Haste counters and dispels Slow on the Monk.

Everyone else gets +1 AC, +1 to hit, +30' base speed movement and 1 extra attack at highest BAB when making a full round attack.

Seoni will use her new-found speed to get the heck away from the smelly minotaurs. She will move 60' behind the rock at J-18, on the opposite side of the enemies. Partial cover? (+2 AC, +1 reflex)

My line of sight is clear, so can I charge? It's moving one square diagonally w clear line of sight, no rough terrain, etc. If so , i charge the closest beast, 25 ft away and attack. If I can't charge, valeros approaches the nearest creature and attacks normally.

    d20 +13 +1 (+3 if the rules allow the charge)= 14 +14 (or 16 if valeros charges) = 28 (30)

Valeros ac is 24, -2 for charge +1 for haste, so 23

Valeros draws his blades as soon as the beasts appear. He readies himself for whatever may come. He sees the monk stagger as the monster gestures at him, and prepares his strike. Before he can act, the sorcerer makes some strange movement and utters an incantation. Valeros feels the magic hasting power enter him as he roars and flings himself at the nearest monster, blades swinging.

Valeros charges headlong into attack, and lands a massive blow to the creature!

    FIGHTER charge and attack succeeds

Assuming that was with the longsword?

    Roll for damage -

Druid and animal companion are up

Nice!  cheers ( We typically roll damage with the attacks to save response time. If it misses, then the roll is just discarded).

Lini casts Bull's Strength on her snow leopard animal companion. "Get 'em Ghost!" she says, pointing at the rampaging beast. She moves to cover at C-19.

    Ghost moves to C-10.
    Makes a bite attack:
    10+2+16+1=29

    If that hits:
    4+4+2= 10 damage

    plus Trip:
    CMB: 10+5+1=16
