The Office of Magical Phenomena (OMP)
This is a British quasi-military office created by bringing in the three most “magically” knowledgeable officers in British Intelligence. The OMP has grown to 216 persons in 7 offices. It was created in 1920 to study, and assess any possible threats from magical and metaphysical occurrences or persons. As they are a part of British Intelligence, though they have many civilian members, the OMP is almost always humane in its dealings (though several countries have accused a few of its members of stealing artifacts). The OMP maintains several overseas offices in Canada, India, Australia, South Africa, Burma and Hong Kong. It is the closest thing to an international organization that currently exists and it tries to maintain ties to any other group that is not considered a threat. The OMP maintains close ties with the American group, the Arcanum.
The Society of Arcane Knowledge, the Arcanum
This is group of roughly 50 magical practitioners and scholars that live in upstate New York on 250 acres of hills and farm land. The Arcanum is immensely wealthy and a modern day castle is being built on the grounds. The Arcanum is very secretive about its activities but they are not bothered by the authorities to anyone’s knowledge. This has led to speculation by some that they have undue influence on the various branches of the government (though this is without any substantiation).
The Wild Hunt
This is a group of Elves that emerged in the later part of the Irish rebellion against the British. Since peace has finally come to the majority of Ireland, which is independent of Britain, the Hunt is actively engaged in terroristic action in Northern Ireland (on occasion) and, more commonly, fighting alongside other freebooters, revolutionaries or mercenaries throughout the world. The Wild Hunt maintains their own contact, some think by magic, and they are feared by those who know of them. Only Elves are allowed, but those of any human ‘race’ are accepted.
The Circle of Apophis
Of this group there is only speculation and rumor. They are believed to be committed to the destruction of the ‘new world’ and have it replaced with one of servitude to their dark magic. They are associated with Apophis (Apep); ancient Egyptian god of destruction, chaos and, in mythology, the enemy of the Pharaoh. Why this is so is not known though they have been identified by the OMP as being involved in several instances of assassination and civil war.
The Cult of Osiris:
These sorcerers are considered very dangerous. Contrary to popular view, they are organized around a man of considerable brutality, cunning and charisma; though the last of these is certainly due to arcane powers. Sebastian Turnow is very secretive and is rumored, though the OMP has yet to substantiate this, to require a blood oath from each of his minions. The goals of the Cult of Osiris have eluded all attempts at discovery.
There are numerous (and according to rumor, hundreds) of other ‘un-organized’ groups throughout the world. Pagan cults, off-shoots of Christianity (and the other organized religions), magical groups, Shamanic groups… all are present in some form or another.
