    Aftermath in B minor

Post  navyik on Tue Mar 31, 2015 7:16 pm

"Your diversion could not have been better timed," the Squire says.  "Our counter attack would not otherwise have been possible."

The cheers fade as bleary eyed towns folk emerge from the cellars in the fort to see that their town has been put to the torch.  Then there is sobbing and outcry.  "Who is to blame for this?"  The demand comes from a rather portly shopkeeper's wife.  Soon her outrage is followed by more, along with fear and confusion.  "What do we do now?"  Others rush to the town hoping to extinguish some of the flames or rescue possessions in time.

Emil will carefully retrieve and wrap up the crystal shrinky gadget that zapped him and place it in his bag. He wants to study it later..

After that, he will just kind of pitch in and help with any rescue and recovery efforts.. hauling water, bandaging wounds, whatever he can do to be useful (without breaking a sweat, that is)

He whistles as he works, mentally composing a song to glorify his heroic deeds on this day...

If you haven't already done so, level up to 2nd level.

The tracks go to a high spot in the gorge where it intersects with an old trappers trail. A crude ramp completes the transition. Nearby, you find a child's doll.

Back in town, the worst of the fires are either extinguished or burned out.  The guild hall went up quickly due to storage of oil and grains.  The inn is partially saved along with some of the bigger shops and homes.  The shantys are totalled. The stone library tower stands untouched.

The town crier is announcing "town meeting tonight at the square!"

Another cry emerges, "Wella!?  Where 'd ye go girl? Where's my Wella!?"

GM- is multi-classing cool with you?

Emil wants to take a level of bard.

The bard performances and spells I wanna give him could be played subtly, more like special talents or uncanny abilities than 'magic'..

Lumenor being a craftsman and having an affinity with fire can probably retrofit the flamer as a backpack flamethrower.  Yes, exotic wp.

Tuq is naturally curious about Engineering and machinery (simplicity bonus class skill) and will take time to inspect the least damaged goblin mech he can find.

Tuq will attempt to study how the various pulleys and ropes are connected from the saddle (in his mind) to the limbs of the machine. Tuq inevitably finds himself sitting in the control seat, since he is the same size as a goblin.

Tuq will attempt to get the mech up and moving again

    Take 20 on KNOW Engineering = 24

I assume Tuq would be using Ride to maneuver it?

    what about the weapon systems?

Next time he +1ups, is there a different skill and\or feat he could purchase to help him with piloting it? My thought would be to spend some time 'in character' practicing with it and then buy the new feat\skill at 3rd when he actually gets another feat and more skills. I thought about it for 2nd, but in reality, he has only been a Hunter up to this point, so I didn't think it was right, yet, to put points into something else.

Maybe Lumenor and the Blacksmith can help restore the weapon systems?

I should make a class for the goblins.  After becoming acquainted with their tech, you could take a level of it.

Otherwise, their gadgets can be learned one at a time.  A "goblin tech" feat that covers all of their tech could have two exotic goblin weapon profs. and 5 ranks in eng as a prerequisite.  Do you think those pre-reqs are toobmuch?  I could nerf them a bit...

that would be 3 total feats.  I guess it would depend on how many things that actually covers.  That would take 3rd, 5th and 7th level to even qualify for (or fighter levels).  5 ranks in Eng would also take 5th level to even acquire.

I guess it just depends on what exactly the goblin tech does, to determine if it is worth it or not.

What is the ride penalty if not proficient in Exotic Mount - Goblin Mech?
What do the weapons actually do?
Would the Goblin-class have bonus abilities in using Goblin Tech? (in place of spells for example)

You don't have to answer that, but it's hard to judge the cost-value w\o more info.  For example, without Exotic Wpn Prof, you take a -4 penalty to attack rolls.  Would someone take a -4 penalty to controlling the Mech w\o the Exotic Mount Mech feat?

Tuq will mess with the Mech over the course of this level, at -4 to Ride.  Hopefully by 3rd level, he can figure out its stats enough to decide if he wants to use his 3rd lvl feat for the Exotic Mount Mech feat.

    Lets do this:

     GOBLIN TECH FEATS:

MECHANICAL, covers all linkage and pulley based equipment.  Prereqs: know eng 1 rank and profession siege engineer 1 rank.

CHEMICAL, covers flamers and other alchemical gadgets.  (Alchemists get this for free).

Other catagories will be revealed as they are encountered.  Non-prof is the standard -4 unless otherwise noted.

I will probably come up with some kind of piloting skill.  I think I can apply a synergy bonus to piloting from other relevant skills.

That sounds fair and reasonable, especially as a place to start.

I will use Ride -4 until otherwise instructed for piloting checks

Can Tuq get the stats for the goblin mech suit?

The meeting that night is stressful.

The squire tries to tame the frightened angry crowd.  "We are investigating the attack.  Our scouts have some leads, but we can't leave the fort undefended.  We will need volunteers to follow their trail."

    "Who's to blame for this?!"
"My poor Willa," (that was her doll).
"What were those things, did you know about them?!"
    "Somebody should do something!"
"Why hasn't the Queen sent reinforcements?!"
"None of this happened until that crazy blacksmith started raving about fires!"
    "Yeah!"
"You got what YOU wanted, yeh bloody lunatic!"
    "String 'eem up!" To Lumenor.

"Please, my friends," shouts the squire.

"You're no friend to us; you let it happen!"
    "Yeah!"

Ila raises her hackles and steps between Lumenor and the mob, a deep warning growl stirring in her throat. Tuq steps up next to her and whispers, "Easy girl, they don't know any better." (to the mob) "Lumenor may have foreseen today's fire storm, but that doesn't mean he caused it. The Great Spirit sends us warnings, sometimes through an animal, sometimes a vision.... but we must hear her call. Remember the story of the Rooster? He did not hear Snake approaching for the sound of his own crowing."

"Ila and I found the tracks earlier today and we volunteer to go with any who hold Bear's bravery in their hearts. Who is with us?" Tuq looks pleadingly at the others, hoping he doesn't have to go alone

Emilian leans over and whispers to Lumenor..

"Perhaps it is time to uhh... sneak out the back, eh? Go my friend, we will meet you soon at the trail-head."

Then Emil will step up next to Tuq and Ila, put on his most charming smile, and nod vigorously in agreement.

"The little one is right! Do not blame the bearer for the news he delivers!"

Tuq can add an 'aid another' bonus for Emilian to whatever check you make, yes?

During the mounting hysteria, Korwin decides enough is enough... with one mighty swing his hammer comes down, smashing a nearby broken table into tiny pieces... "panic is not going to help anyone. Those that can fight should man the defenses. This man (pointing to the squire) appears to have some idea of how to defend you... I say you should listen to him instead of finding scapegoats. I have no fear of these pitiful vermin, I will volunteer to help solve this riddle and find the source of this evil."

He looks over the crowd, making sure to keep the hammer menacingly in his hands, "does anyone wish to.. disagree with me?"

Intimmidate check for Korwin.  Tuq's diplomacy (or whatever) gets +2 for Emil's aid.

The crowd backs down except for one woman holding a doll.  "Please sir, bring back my Willa..."

Waiting on Tuq's check to see if crowd backs down happily or grudgingly.

The crowd seems cautiously neutral... They dislike you less than they do the squire.

Chef steps up beside Lumenor. "Good people, I will vouch for this man. He helped me when I was down for the count in the battle against the goblins." Gesturing to his companions, "I've seen all these men fight for the town, and for your lives. If you trust me and my cooking, then know that I would trust these strangers with my life. In a time of chaos and peril, they have shown their true quality."

The morning arrives unceremoniously.  The widow has baked Emil a pie.  Willa's mother brings 2 jugs of water and a brick of cheese.

Strangely, the librarian is also there to send you off.  "I have been attempting to research those creatures in some of our obsolete archives," he drones like a befuddled crackpot.  "There is so much nonsense, I cannot narrow it down, you see.  Please take this journal and specimen kit.  Keep a record and samples.  There may be much to learn... Yes... Much to study...I will have to dig...(darkly) deeper."  He wanders off as if he'd forgotten he was talking to you.

    Any other preparations?

still just waiting for stats on the mecha suit

Tuq makes his pitch to the others, "Perhaps we should pool our resources and buy or rent a pack mule before we go? I would like to continue to practice with the mech suit, I see Lumenor has taken a fancy to the fire-maker and who knows what else we may find for the librarian to study."

Chef is willing to pilot the wagon. How many horse-drawn is it?

Emilian graciously accepts the pie offered him by the widow, and gives her an 'ancient gypsy blessing' that he makes up on the spot..

He understands sometimes one has to spend money to make money, so he's willing to kick in a share towards whatever gear the clever little one called Tuq thinks they need.

However, free IS the best price to one such as him, so if Chef can get a wagon without charge, all the better!

Emilian is ready when the rest are.

Tuq, holding his mini Lucerne Hammer, admires Korwin's hammer. "What spirit resides in that purple stone? I do not recognize it"
