Lumenor uses a double move to cross the creek, using the rocks and ending as near to 0-13/14 as he can get.

FYI - I am going on a family vacation to visit the Carbones of Connecticut from Fri 5\29 - Sat 6\6

Josh can take my turns for me when Tuq is up. Tuq will try to stay at range, move back if needed and sling stones. Tuq has a couple healing spells (2 more spells for the day, cast like a sorcerer) or another entangle if needed.

At some point we will pause where I will need Chris for some complicated power point.  At that point you should all be prepared to move forward under some specific scenario assumptions.  While I try to accomodate story-line liberty, it may not be as easy to do with the mechanics with which I am about to experiment.

I certainly appreciate all the graphics and maps that the forum as a medium allows us. It certainly adds to the vibe of the stories. That being said, IMHO, we can always default to pure text-based description. It takes more concentration, but this is an RPG based on fantasy literature. geek

For most of what I do, I would agree.  The scenario at hand, however is slated for some odd mechanics I wanted to map out.

Now that you mention it, though, perhaps it WOULD be easier not to map it and use visualization?

We can give it a try, but I honestly think it will be impossible to follow the action or know where anything is. It would require us to re-read the entire written description of the scene, then re-read all the updates to see where people move and what happens. I only look at the most recently updated map and the current initiative position. Especially given the current pace of the game, not using maps and tokens seems unrealistic, imo.

On that note.... I don't understand why the pace has slowed down so much. We used to be able to get in 1 turn of combat, an entire initiative pass, in about 1-2 days. Now we are completing less than 1 turn per week. My last action was Sat. May 16th - that is 12 days ago and it isn't even my turn yet.

Alan is doing a great job of telling a story, but just to be honest.... I am losing interest in playing with so little activity. 1 action every 2 weeks is killing my involvement in the game.

I suggest we go back to a 24-48hr clock, if the next person up doesn't go, they get skipped or the GM makes a passive move for them and we get the ball rolling again. Unfortunately, that doesn't appear to be the only problem with the pace.

Josh asked a question 3 days ago, so he can decide his action, without GM reply. The round has been stuck ever since. I know we all just miss posts sometimes, but we need to pick up the pace, please sunny

I will email Josh the PP for this fight, maybe he can help you while I am on vacation. I will get email on my phone and I will try to update, if I don't, Josh will take care of Tuq.

Can you imagine picking up a fantasy novel and not finding a map or two of the world? Maps are integral to the fantasy genre.

I don't think it's a necessary labor on the DM to be updating the map every turn and such. Using zones like Engaged, Near, and Far are extremely helpful in determining a character's possible actions. And when those terms carry mechanical weight, all the better. I urge everyone to read 13th Age, if you haven't already. Some really inspired game design in the d20 vein.

Definitly in agreement with Chris (have a good trip, man!) and would like to see things move faster. But it's contingent on whatever is comfortable for Alan and the time he can realistically commit. I like the adventure and want to continue. That being said, we could easily run some other (smaller) side games. They would not interfere with Alan's game.

...and just to say it (if anyone really cares) I'm dropping out of this after Chris is able to resume doing stuff with the map. Gaming (and the fantasy genre in general) just doesn't really interest me anymore

I'm still on the fence about future endeavors or campaigns. No criticism of anyone or anything at all; I just don't really care about dragons, goblins, etc. anymore.

    That's a good suggestion, Rob!

What about a side game? with a smaller group, that is able to have a faster pace and that way we (junkies) get our daily fix and get to continue this story

One more post, concerning other games. There is a new thread about it in the General Discussion forum. I also posted a forum for a game I wish to run that is a hybrid cyberpunk / cthulhu. Check it out.

Door is wide open, having been burst by a falling, flaming mech.

Korwin can see in, flames have spread quickly, but Korwin thinks he can manage it.  Above, he sees a massive bevel gear connecting the paddle wheel to the internal drive shaft that powers the mill.  The construction of the machinery is extremely rigid and quite impressive.

It moves slower than the pic suggests.

    Sidewiew:

In the contrast of flame and smoke, you don't see any steps or ladders.  There appears to be more components above but it is too difficult to see specifics.

Korwin finds himself under the massive bevel pinion, maybe 8' above his head.  It takes up most of the room.  Only the corners would allow vertical passage above the pinion to a medium sized creature.

Chef reaches the lowest window.  He sees flames and smoke.  Over the din of machinery he hears maniacle giggling and screaming.
Through the smoke he sees a 25x25 room with no floor.  Instead there are 2 goblins skipping on a huge gear around a vertical spline spilling big cups of flaming gin.

At the top of the spline (imagine it vertical)

Is a terrified little girl.  Above her is a sun gear.

Which acts as the next floor.

Korwin can't see her, chef or the goblins.  He can hear commotion above the gear overhead.

I am back and enjoying the story over the last week! I love the gears, especially since Tuq is no where near them Smile

Either here or somewhere further back in the canyon, did Tuq see any kind of goat trail or deer path that would get him\Ila up the 50ft to the top of the canyon?

    Rolling Eyes ok, mr. GM

Tuq will cast Resist Energy (fire) on himself, shared with Ila. They now have DR 10\fire.

Tuq spurs a reluctant Ila to move into the burning building. "What strange spirit is moving me?" Tuq wonders to himself.
