Theodas Half-elf Ranger

Theodras of Blacrock is independent, facetious and self-reliant, largely due to his rough childhood. He was born and grew up in a small family in an important capital where he lived comfortably until he was about 15 years old, but at that point everything changed. He lost his sisters in a horrible flood and was headed for a life of crime; slinking through the city streets, scavenging food and whatever else he could find. After a time he was reunited with his lost dog, but still had to survive in a relentless world. With Theodras' determination and vigor he left the big city and headed out into the wilderness. Years later, Theodras managed to start a new life as a forest ranger in the employ of Lord Kusley of Blacrock. With the lessons of the past, he now works perfecting skills and talents. By doing so, he hopes to find safety and happiness, and finally find the pleasurable life he has never had. Recently though, Theodras has taken it upon himself to help several unfortunate families living in the village of Starfell; feeding them deer and rabbits he has taken illegally from Lord Kusley's wood. He tells himself he will do this only for a short while until these families get back on their feet.

I think we are using only 15 pts for attributes.  That looks like 25-30, I think?

I don't think I directed him to the thread that discussed the build specs. Sorry 'bout that.

Right. I didn't know we were using point buy. I used the online Pathfinder character gen to roll stats. I'll rebuild him tomorrow. Let me know if there's anything else in the mean time.

Theodras currently operates west of a town called Starfell. (There is a thread about this). Hovland is actually the town of Blacrock, where there have been rumors of problems with bandits or savages to the west. There have been fanciful variations on this that challenge sanity. The expected trade caravan has failed to arrive now and no messages have arrived. Theodras (amoung others) is dispatched to scout the roads west and has found a recent trail north, armed men and... something else...

When you say Theodras spots men and something else, are you saying I notice tracks and other signs of passage, or I actually spot figures moving about in the woods?

At any rate, it would be best if I informed the local lord of this activity right away. He will need details as to the number of men, any colors (banners / sigils) they are wearing, and information about this strange "thing" with them. Theodras tries to gather as much information as possible about this situation before reporting back to Starfell.

You only find a trail. Not enough detail for a report.

I should follow the trail then. If it appears fresh (less than a day old) I will follow the trail with extreme caution: staying out of sight, walking with an arrow nocked to my bow string, and only getting close enough to spy from a far distance. If the trail appears old, I will proceed less-cautiously and more quickly, looking for signs of camps, discarded trash, and taking special note of the direction the group was headed in. Any way I can tell which way they were headed? Toward any major geographic feature/location?

Toward last water. A small group, two days old. A larger and less elegant trail a day old. Both heading North toward Lastwater.

I'm not sure how far Lastwater is from where Theodras is at, but if the town is in danger its his duty to try to warn them. If he knows any shortcuts through the wilderness, he will take them. He travels at a fast pace, jogging through the night if necessary. His darkvision and ranger endurance should give him an edge over these raiders.

Theodras hits the trail hard and fast, the tracks are not hard to find. The smaller trail left two days ago seems to be taking the quickest route, trailblazed by an expert woodsman; following the road at a safe observation distance. The second trail, not subtle at all, is merely following the first.

Suddenly, Theo's faithful pooch stops and points silently. He is indicating a distant scent that distracts him from the trail. Carefully, Theo approaches the source of the stench and is overwhelmed. Some of the bodies are melted, some charred. Some are hewn or skewered. Neither side stopped to bury their dead.
Theo's dog is sniffing and keening at a cloven wolf sprawled across an ashen-dead aboriginal halfling. Strange small creatures and their odd machines are fused to the ground; one of them in the act of beheading an armored man who is slumped to the ground over his hammer.
