    Ali delivers a quick "slash and burn" with blade and torch, dispatching the 'Shroom into a shuddering husk. Tungo leaps to the side, winds up, and delivers a massive blow that cleaves the 'Shroom in half!

    The slime overhead seems to bubble and writhe. It reaches out a long, limb-like pseudopod in an attempt to clobber Tungo...the blow misses him by inches, close enough that he can hear a boiling, crackling sound coming off the slime.

    Vozz is up, map is current.

    Vozz still feels way to close to all this slime.  He retreats back to B-5 next to Ali.

    He is trying to decide between fire and cold....   does he remember the Druids ever talking about underground slimes?  Or has he ever done any research on them himself?

    Vozz will cast either Ray of Frost or Firebolt.  If he has knowledge or a hunch on which would be more effective, he will use that.  Otherwise, he chooses Firebolt.

    Tungo moves towards the remaining 'Shrooms after delivering his death blow.

    Vozz wracks his brain for any knowledge of slimes, ooozes, jellies, and their ilk - but comes up empty on what kind of attack might provide an advantage.
    "Frack it, fire is always a good choice!" He launches elemental flames at the slippery creature, scorching it with a damaging blast!

    The two remaining 'Shrooms shuffle forward towards Tungo, sprouting tentacles and swinging them with malice!

    #4 attacks with 2 tentacles, missing with both.

    #5 attacks with 3 tentacles. The first flails and misses wildly, but the next two score critically dangerous hits! Tungo experiences stinging pain as the tentacles strike his face and neck - huge welts raise up as the pain radiates through his body...

    Tungo takes 14 Necrotic dmg

    Map is current, Ali is up.

    Tungo has Stone's Endurance, which allows him to shrug off 4 + 3 = 7 of the Necrotic damage. He takes 7.

    Tungo's tough skin shrugs off much of the 'Shroom's damage.




    Clarification is required because I have already denied Tungo movement into space A/10 due to the presence of the large 'Shroom corpse, and now Ali is seeking to occupy the space as well. The downed 'Shrooms with black X's can be considered barriers to normal movement, and a character cannot co-occupy a square with them.

    Ali could make an Acrobatics check to clear the 'Shroom corpse and end in space A/11 before making his attack - where he will be knee deep in thick green fungi... or he can end in any other unoccupied square within range.

    Sorry, I missed the bit about Tungo being denied occupancy of that square.  Ali is darring, flamboyant, and foolhardy.  It would be out of character to cautiously avoid the obviously dangerous fungus and stand back chucking daggers...

    Its all good, that actually took place in an offline conversation. Hence my need to clarify the intent for the map.

    Ali splashes across the tunnel, then does a one-handed cartwheel across the corpse of the Shroom blocking his path. He sticks a solid landing, despite the slippery, moldy footing - and feels himself sink knee-deep into a slimy, lumpy heap of fungus.

    Undaunted by the disgusting mess around his feet, he attacks with blade and torch - and slays the nearest 'Shroom!

    Tungo quickly realizes the party needs to take down these sentient fungi fast. They have a lethal lash to their tendrils! He flies into a rage and swings his mighty axe at shroom monster #4.

    THWONK!

    Mighty Tungo dispatches the final 'Shroom with a savage blow!

    Overhead, the slimy fungal blight slithers across the ceiling towards the nearby tumult. It strikes at Ali with a club-like pseudopod - and connects! The blow feels like being drubbed by a club but also leaves a thin coat of mucous that sizzles Ali's skin like fire.

    Ali takes 9 Bludgeoning DMG plus 3 Acid DMG.

    Vozz is to close the round, map is current.

    Does Vozz have a clear LoS\LoE on the slime? It appears to be sharing a space. He won't risk hitting one of his friends, unless he has a clean shot at it.

    It is still hanging from the ceiling, so a direct LoS attack is feasible. Anything AOE would strike Vozz's companions.

    Small frost crystals begin to form on his robes and the air around him shimmers. His breath can be seen, as on a winter's day, as he speaks the incantation for Ray of Frost

    The ray of cold air lances through the blob. An arm sized chunk freezes and falls to the floor with a solid THUD, then shatters into a dozen pieces like a broken jug. It looks to be about the same amount of mass loss that boiled away when Vozz struck it with fire...but the creature does now shimmer with a tiny layer of frost.

    Gentlemen, after we wrap up this encounter, I need to pause the campaign for a bit while I get some things under control here. I gave notice at my day job to get Badger rolling strong and things are going to be hectic with weekend shows in February.

    Want to be clear this is a pause, and I am 100% going to bring this game back later in the year if you 3 will come back with it! Hope you are enjoying the story as much as I am - we are just beginning to uncover the mysteries of Shadow and Light!

    Yeah, Tungo is going to go after the 'malicious slimy fungal jelly lurking on the ceiling above him'. He trades in his greataxe and grabs a torch and spear. Lights the torch. That's his turn.

    Spends his Inspiration (we have one? two?) point to make an attack with the torch. 19 + 5 = 24. How are you handling damage? There isn't a rule for raw fire damage that I can find, but the Bonfire cantrip (Elemental Evil Guide) does 1d8 fire damage. It seems improvised weapons do 1d4...

    Oh here it is: "If you make a melee attack with a burning torch and hit, it deals 1 fire damage." (PHB pg.153)

    So I guess torches do 1 fire damage or unlit can do 1d4 bludgeon damage. OK.

    Ali slashes at the blob as it reaches out for its attack, landing a blow that would open a solid gash in any foe! To his surprise, the fungal slime splits in two with a loud

    SLLLLLLURP!

    Vozz's fire bolt slams home moment's later, striking one of the two smaller blobs. It blackens, sizzles, and pops like a cooking egg, but remains suspended above Tungo.

    The other blob is perched above Ali...

    Ali throws a clay flask of oil directly above himself, smashing it open and dousing the blob, then sets it alight with his torch. Flames spring to life as the oily coating on the blob ignites...


    ...and then begins to drop in large, burning clumps back down onto Ali! Being knee-deep in a pile of scuzzy fungus, his ability to evade the flaming oil is impaired.

    Ali, make a DEX check at disadvantage.

    Small drops of burning oil drip down onto Ali, catching fire where they land...

    Tungo jabs a torch at the nearest blob, scorching it further.

    The pair of fungi seem to have had enough of the heat and hostility - the meal sensed below did not prove as easy a prey as they hoped. They seem to bubble and shrink from view as they slither into cracks in the ceiling, disappearing from sight.

    Ali, still standing knee-deep in a pile of assorted subterranean fungus, manages to extinguish the small flames still burning on his armour and clothes...

    Vozz is facinated by the slimes, molds, and fungi especially the ones that seemed almost sentient. Vozz racks his brain for any mention of them in Arcana or as possible components

    short of that revealing anything, he will take samples from each different entity encountered: yellow, light green, dark green, red, mushroom men, giant mushrooms that were not animated. each sample goes into a separate small bag.

    Vozz will search the area as he collects (and for the collection of the best samples)

    Vozz clearly recalls that many species of fungi can be used for augmenting Transmutation, Illusion, and Divination spells. Given some time in an arcane laboratory (such as the one at the Tower), these samples could be processed into an elixir that would aid a caster in wielding specific schools of Magic.




    Game Item Mechanic, Magic Elixer

    5 lbs of relevant material can be processed into 1 flask of Minor Elixer.

    1 Elixer = Grant +1 to caster's roll or -1 to target's roll.




    We'll assume that Vozz collects 5 lbs of each variety available.

    "you better run," Ali shouts, shaking his fist at the bare ceiling.  "May your mother know the gentle affections of many camels!". He fishes for his dropped blade before restoring to his usual good cheer.

    "Hey, Ali Abbas Uz Amirr having good idea to killing these mooshrums and collecting them for experiment," he says, again taking credit for Vozz's discovery.
