current stated idea: "take off, nuke the site from orbit, it's the only way to be sure"

Skree looks at Zang with sad eyes. He makes a low purring noise, similar to what he used to do in the presence of Praxia, but a deeper, mournful sound.

    any other investigation?

"Gentlemen - recall our training. We control the Portal travel with our intention and focus. We know we came from different places, consider that we do not know if we all came together from the same time."

Argul searches for some insight into whether they may be mislocated in time, space, plane, etc:

    Knowledge (Planes)
Result of the throw of dice "1d20 +14" :

    9 + 14 = 23

    Knowledge (History)
Result of the throw of dice "1d20 +12" :

    12 + 12 = 24

Korvaq and Argul consider some possibilities:  Does time flow differently in different planes?  Is time constant or relative?  Does the original time of the portal creators affect the end time?  Why in the hell didn't Cap and the others say anything about this?!?!

Debate about time is set aside to consider that last and most important question.  Ion and the party jumped contemporaneously to Salyut.  They told you they watched the fountain in the park - the Nexus.  None of this suggested anything unusual about time.  So what happened?

Korvaq considers the unique description of Salyut Station....

Chris wrote:Captain Rodgers leads the party into the Security Center at the hub of Salyut Clinic.  There are storage lockers and main turbo-lift shaft.  Scrap returns the party's equipment to them - it is all there.  Captain Rodger's crew stays down stairs and the party is invited to ride up.  As the lift rises, the party can see through the transparent durasteel of the lift tube that they are on a large space station.  It is shaped like a wagon wheel.  It is floating in deep space.  There are no planets or nearby stars.  It is dark and quiet.

    While Argul remembers Rasso's actions...

    Chris wrote:
Rasso continues pacing back and forth.  His gestures become quick and erratic.  His voice becomes high-pitched.  "I taught you how to walk the Planes....  I unraveled the mystery of Paradox....  and yet you still question me...

    let the words flow
    today of all days

    just let them go
    into the ether

    to other souls
    to other hearts filled

    get drunk upon
    their many meanings

    today of all days
    like a raging torrent
    of bloodied wine

    let the words flow....
    "

A distortion begins to form behind Rasso.  Is he consciously creating it or is it a reflection of his mind?

Any theories before I reveal what happened?  bonus XP for the party if you figure it out

With the shape of the well and space station and the lack of anything surrounding us, I'm getting "black hole" imagery. Which fits with an annihilated state of things, but beyond that, I'm having no luck piecing things together. Rasso's poetry isn't landing me anywhere solid. Which makes sense because he is freaking crazy!

    Rasso changed something + Blackhole = 3200 xp (1/4 to 10th)

The party is starting to piece things together (previous rolls + player guesses).....

Salyut Station was in an area of space devoid of stars or planets.  There is a nearby micro black hole (which can come in any size or mass) which had already pulled everything it could into its event horizon and\or mangled it into quarks in the singularity.  Space-time functions normally until you cross the event horizon and start to be affected by the gravity of the singularity.

Salyut Station was located safely outside of the event horizon.... until Rasso opened his "madness portal" which looks strikingly like a mico black hole.  The party is uncertain how Rasso did it, but somehow Salyut Station crossed the event horizon ever so slightly.  Because of the intense gravity of the singularity, time flows differently within the event horizon than it does outside.  Relativity is a bitch!  Twisted Evil

While it seemed like only minutes passed on Salyut Station, years passed by in normal space outside the event horizon.  Luckily the party left as quickly as they did or centuries might have slipped away into the ether.

Rasso knew the party was on to him.  He needed time to enact his plan, so he stalled the party.  Unfortunately, it also looks like the Xenomorphs gained ground as well.

Returning to Salyut Station is probably unwise. What would the party like to do now?

It's a good thing we're using realistic astrophysics theories in a fantasy game! Rolling Eyes

"I doubt we can further rely on our allies at Salyut Station. Perhaps the wisest move now is to gather an invasion force. We can journey to our respective home worlds and try to enlist aid. Perhaps the Klingons, or the Librarians, or even Brick's devolved wrestling fans will help us.

"In answer to Korvaq, this seemingly dead world is only my adoptive home, it is not my birth world. On Zyr, my planet of origin, there are many more people like me, medium-sized half-constructs. There is also a large contingent of giant robots who may help us. But then, I have not been to Zyr in many years."

Argul can psychically sense a strong presence drawing nearer.

Korvaq notices a slight ripple in the space\time continuum.

The hazy image (spatial distortion\psychic presence) grows clearer.  The party can see what looks like a second silhouette next to the first as the connection improves.

Robyo wrote:"I have been trapped behind the physics of Time, my Mistressness. It should be recorded in the Annals of Chronos, no?"

"Yes, my champion, the enemy is cunning and powerful.... "

Praxia has more to say, but since you asked...

Robyo wrote:Is Zang fairly certain that he is in communication with THE Paraxia? Do I need to roll some kind of check or save?

Zang is fairly certain it is her.  Remember, she has taken different forms in different worlds - the sick old lady in the modern world and the Cosmic Mother in outer space.  Zang has always heard her voice and seen her avatar.  He can only hear her voice now, but it seems like the longer you are in contact, the clearer the image becomes.  It is not unreasonable, given the state of the world, that she might have been dormant.  But it is a bit odd....

Zang can attempt a d20 + lvl + prime check (since there really isn't any Detect Goddess check Wink )

Argul steadies himself, reaches out and gathers the collective intelligence gathered near him (the party and the being that Zang is speaking with), then links them together with a telepathic bond so that they may all communicate freely.

    TELEPATHIC BOND
    School divination; Level sorcerer/wizard 5
    Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, M (two eggshells from two different creatures)
    Range close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Targets you plus one willing creature per three levels, no two of which can be more than 30 ft. apart
    Duration 10 min./level (D)
Saving Throw none; Spell Resistance no
You forge a telepathic bond among yourself and a number of willing creatures, each of which must have an Intelligence score of 3 or higher. Each creature included in the link is linked to all the others. The creatures can communicate telepathically through the bond regardless of language. No special power or influence is established as a result of the bond. Once the bond is formed, it works over any distance (although not from one plane to another).

If desired, you may leave yourself out of the telepathic bond forged. This decision must be made at the time of casting.

Telepathic bond can be made permanent with a permanency spell, though it only bonds two creatures per casting of permanency.

cheers Awesome!  I love your abilities

As if going from dial-up to a 4g connection, the hazy image instantly comes into focus through the high-speed psychic bond!

However, instead of the arboreal goddess Zang was expecting, you find yourselves chatting with something else....

The party can all now "hear" her voice in their heads, "Ah Zang, you brought friends home... powerful friends it seems.  Good, good, we will need their abilities to defeat our enemy."
The party can also hear the Xeno chittering excitedly in the background.

"Powerful....perhaps, your Highness, but none so magnificent as you" states Argul in a flattering tone, keeping a straight face and not letting on that the party can see through her deception. He does his best to physically catch the attention of the rest of the party and winks at them as if to say "play along!".

A few, but they are spells vs this SLA, and I am trying to keep on the down-low for the moment. I didn't go too far down the rabbit hole with mind-reading/psychic stuff because the campaign seemed to be leaning away from the subtle and towards the openly confrontational. If things had gone down the path I originally thought we were going (more of a "Vampire: The Masqerade" plotting and scheming feel) I would have delved much deeper into the true "psychic" capabilities of the class.

I think I said I would entertain some short solo parts that would be non-combat in nature, but it hasn't played out that way yet (not sure if it will at this point). This story has taken on a life of its own, unlike what I was originally expecting.

    Anyways...

Argul can tell that this Xeno-Praxia is like a psychic server. She is in communication with the party but also with many other entities. Argul didn't notice them at first because they were dormant. However, they seem to be stirring now....

It's all good - wasn't a complaint, simply an observation. This class has a broad set of choices. I've built it more general, but one option would have been to go very "cerebral" with little direct combat applications and lots of mind reading, dream manipulation, etc.

Zang's wisdom confirms what Argul's psychic bond revealed. This IS the goddess Praxia, however, she has changed significantly. It seems the Xenomorphs have some sort of goddess of their own who has merged with what was once Praxia.

"The Enemy is indeed resourceful, Your Worshipfulness." Zang sheaths his scimitar. A gesture of faith. "You must show me the way to avenge your world."

He casually pulls out his longbow. Scratches the end of it in the dirt, for his companions to see: USURPER! Knocks a black arrow, one of the xeno slayers.

GM, can we target the source of the voice?

Argul nods at Zang. His understanding is that the See-no-more Queen has stolen the throne of the Being he was trying to contact.

He sees the battle-tension building in Zang and Brick, and motions subtly towards them with his hands spread open and palms down, in a patting motion. "PATIENCE, WAIT YET"

    Argul readies an Action:

Cast Spell, Mind Thrust / Condition, Argul determines negotiations have turned hostile and the party is in physical danger

We wait to hear her response.

The source of the voice is in your minds.  Argul established a psychic bond, beforehand only Zang could hear her talking.  The hazy distortion would be the only target-able thing, but Zang senses it is more of a projection than a physical presence.

Xeno-Praxia smiles lovingly at Zang, "You have done all that I could ask of you already.  You came home and brought powerful friends with you.  I was having trouble seeing you, until Argul connected you all with his amazing mind.  Thank you, Mr. Argul, you are as helpful as you are polite."

    HP - 54
    AC - 13
    SR - 20
    INIT - 12
    Phrenic Pool - 8
    Spell Slots Used: 3rd,

Argul frowns as he realizes that negotiations have failed and violence will be required. The creatures scrambling forward do not seem to have friendly intentions...he turns his gaze to the scorpion creature at L/7 and seeks to crush its newly awakened mind.

Held action triggered, "Mind Thrust IV" being downcast to "Mind Thrust III" to use a lesser slot.

    MIND THRUST I
School divination [mind-affecting]; Level psychic 1
    Casting Time 1 standard action
    Components S
    Range close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
    Target one creature
    Duration instantaneous
Saving Throw Will half; Spell Resistance yes
You divine the most vulnerable portions of your opponent's mind and overload it with a glut of psychic information. This attack deals 1d6 points of damage per caster level (maximum 5d6). The target receives a Will save for half damage. This attack has no effect on creatures without an Intelligence score.

    MIND THRUST II
    School divination; Level psychic 2
This functions as mind thrust I, but the target takes 1d8 points of damage per caster level (maximum 5d8). This spell can be undercast.
    MIND THRUST III
    School divination; Level psychic 3
This functions as mind thrust I, but the target takes 1d8 points of damage per caster level (maximum 10d8). This spell can be undercast.

I believe only Argul had stated a readied action.  The scorpion at L-7 freezes for a moment and then slouches to the ground.  Its mind has been blown Twisted Evil

Zang goes first, so he can perform his stated intentions at 20.  Zang lifts off and Skree takes up a defensive position at the archway. Any other actions?

    Sounds good!

(just for roleplaying flavor and to determine what bonuses he gets)

What is the source of Zang's divine energy? Does he ask Xeno-Praxia for the favor? Or does he want to try and contact the Cosmic Mother he met on the space station?

There are egg fields in all directions and conical monoliths that look vaguely like hives.

At initiative 14, the party can hear a loud buzzing sound coming from the conical monoliths that Zang saw earlier.  A swarm of something can be seen flying out of the hives and towards the party at high speeds.  The party estimates they will arrive next round.
