Background:
Jobah Cloudclimber hails from a small Tabaxi settlement in the Spire Mountains. A region known as K'tal, his forebears were pilgrims from Araztica. The region they settled became a thriving community for nearly 300 years.

Then one day a company of soldiers encroached upon the land, entering into Jo's home village of Lowdown. The newcomers were remnants of the T'narr army. They proceeded to butcher all of the village inhabitants.

Meanwhile, Jo had been away on an extended hunting trip with some friends. When the group returned, they discovered the slaughter of their people. Overcome with grief, Jo enlisted in a group of local freedom fighters. The group was racially diverse, bonded by their hatred of the T'narr.

Jobah served as a scout in a force recon unit. He fought in several skirmishes, eventually attaining the rank of master sergeant. While serving with several dragonborn, he picked up the draconic language as a safe form of communication.

In time, the T'narr troops were defeated and Jobah departed on his own. There was not much for him to return home to. His family were all dead, his former companions had moved on long ago. Jo went seeking adventure and knowledge in the wide world. During his exploits, Jobah learned many skills, gaining proficiency in the rogue and bard career paths.

Oh well. Too late. You only said no Tieflings in the directions, so that's what I followed.

That was a clarification on races in the PHB, as the directions to use the PHB preceded that. Options outside the PHB are no-go for everybody. I appreciate you going with the flow on this.
