Ok, sorry that encounter took so long, I should have used 2 maps, not 3. That just dragged it out with minimal fun.
This island represents a "dungeon". The dungeon alerted to your presence when you sailed around it. You saw bigger things moving in the trees, that was the Fire Giants mobilizing. "Firetail's" response is to send the kobolds to kill or at least stall the crew and 2 FGs to destroy the ship. Firetail will expect a response, but not for a few hours. So you have some time, but not enough for a full rest.
The crew no has 2 basic options:
1) set sail and leave. You can do this before more enemies arrive
2) stay and deal with the dungeon. You can take a short rest and get inside before the dungeon goes on high response alert. At which time, moving around the island or getting inside the dungeon will get much harder.
The kobolds say they can sneak you into the volcano (dungeon proper). They can give you basic info about what's inside, from their point of view, of course. They cant/wont do much more than cause some distraction, unless you come up with something more clever. Their help is Ewokian at best.
I know this is off the course of things nautical, but i wanted to offer it since you chose to explore the island.
