    More detailed lead-in pending -

T'son Hoil uses his natural affinity for reading energy to root out Sith agents and infiltrators. During his last pursuit, he became trapped on a besieged planet for several months before he could escape. As a consequence, he took part in many fierce battles, and is now an accomplished warrior.

GOTAL! those are my list of 'never got to play, but always wanted to try' of alien species.

    concept sounds great, perfect fit.

only question, and it is just a question to consider - in the age of the Old Republic.... why wasn't T'son identified as Force Sensitive and trained as a Jedi? or identified and... encouraged to train at the Sith academy on Korriban?

    Good question.

Maybe the natural Gotal energy senses interfere with formalized manipulation of the Force? Maybe he works for the Jedi in a specialized "off books" role? Maybe the Bothan SpyNet recruited him first?

I have yet to finish the build, but I intend for most of his force abilities to be sense/disguise/illusion type powers. I'd say that T'son has avoided being formally recruited/ indoctrinated by being very careful when/where/how he manifests the Force. He will always try to play these abilities off as "just being Gotal".

I would like to T'son to be part of the Bothan SpyNet, or frequently working with or for them. I considered slotting a level of "Noble" to reflect this.....may still do so.

When do you intend to start the game?

Noble is up to you, only take it if you like the stuff. Scoundrel might be more suited for a spy, depending on how you play it.

Just be careful with too many classes and being a Force User, unless you really only want Sense. Scoundrel is also nice for multi since they get 8 skill points, which helps buy Force Skills. Otherwise you end up 4th level with like a +1 BAB and no defense bonus (starting defense bonus does not stack), etc and the starting wpn\armor feats are often redundant except for soldier.

He could work for the Bothans, sure, who essentially work for the Republic

the thing with 'just being Gotal' is that Jedi\Sith will sense your ability to use the Force whether you use it or not. read "See Force" pg 98. "the Force is strong with that one" and that is clearly different than just Gotal racial abilities. Having a high Force Stealth is really the only counter.

Game will start when everyone is ready and after the conclusion of Rob's current chapter. I would guess the "Shootout at the Biggs Ranch" will be ending soon and barring some loose ends to be tied up, that should end the chapter. so..... maybe a week or so?

Cool...If I can have a Bothan SpyNet affiliation without burning a level to formalize it, thats great.

Here is where I'll ask for some guidance...

So being a "hidden" Force user is probably next to impossible; Can one simply "decline" Jedi training? I imagine the Sith don't allow one to decline their "education"?

I dont know if their any Gotal Jedi already in the collective cannon, but I would err on the side of saying that due to their unique energetic sense, Gotal are very hard to train in the "formalized" use of the Force. So, perhaps, there is a small cadre of Force using Gotal that are technically a part of the Jedi order, but not fully Knights/Guardians/Consulars because they simply do not interact with the Force in the same way as other species.

Hows that sound/work for you as GM?

I think something like that can work.

For the record, Gotal ability and Force are separate, so most Gotal are not Force users in general (like 98% of any species). there certainly are\have been Gotal Jedi, maybe not Sith just cuz they tend to be racist anyways. Sith do train 'aliens' but often for brute work, not with the intention of really letting them become Darths.

Maybe the Bothan's recruit Gotal in particular as trackers? and Force sensitive Gotal are all the better.

The Jedi are pretty elitist and don't train non-jedi, "it's against the code" and all that.

however, that doesn't preclude former\fallen jedi from leaving the order and training Force sensitive spies for the Bothans.... or a converted alien sith..... lots of options....

I dig it. I realized that the racial abilities and the Force are separate issues; in the literature about the species there was discussion about how there had been studies on the Gotal senses and whether or not they could naturally "see the force", and that they had been inconclusive. I thought that was kind of a cool angle and was brainstorming off of the idea that there was an an unknown variable regarding Gotal's and the Force.

I like your latter idea - about there being a fallen/former/converted Jedi or converted Sith that recruits and develops "force adepts" for the SpyNet. Where it is very useful to have Force sensitive spies and trackers, the Jedi code is a bit too cumbersome for espionage work Wink

study don't forget to check the SW House Rules thread for skill consolidation, ie things like

    listen + spot = perception
    climb + jump + swim = athletics
hide + move silently = stealth

that will help a lot with skill points

Also remember that the background skill (Pilot in my case) is maxed out and does NOT count towards your skill pt. total.

so I am just double checking everyone's character before we get into combat, like I did with Alan.....

can you please make list BAB and total with various wpns?
I see your class Def bonus but not a total defense (so I can check to see whether I hit you or not)
    for instance like Alan did

Also - I don't think you chose your FEATS!
I see class feats for soldier and force feats for Force adept, background Starship feat, force training and the bonus Force feat at 3rd..... but you get 1 feat at 1st and 1 feat at 3rd!

these can be anything for which you qualify

For each weapon, it should be BAB plus DEX, correct?

And total defense should be DEF bonus plus armor bonus?

for any ranged wpn it is BAB + DEX + Feats + equipment (if any)

for any melee wpn it is BAB + STR + feats + eq (unless wpn finesse on a light wpn or LS)

DC = Dex + defense rating from class(es) + Feats

armor gives DR only + penalties

the great thing about defense coming from class and not armor.... touch attacks are just like a regular attack, not that there are many touch attacks in SW.

so T'son has a class DC bonus of +5 (+4 from force adept, +1 (+3 -2 for multiclass) from soldier, plus his dex and any feats
