new map is posted in the Combat Map thread, please check and verify for accuracy as the plan seems to have changed.
once i get a confirmation from everyone, besides maybe Matt who didn't change and is probably afk until tomorrow night, I will go ahead and post initiative order and resolve stealth vs perception checks to determine if some\all of you get a surprise round.

I think you're underestimating their flight ceiling. If I remember correctly, it's about 30'. Unless the movies are totally off.
And so I'm a jedi, I don't have the super jump ability (or whatever it's called).
...and I just checked, it is 30'. How high up is that gun?

how about just move object?
30' = 10m = 5 hexes..... so about the height of a 2 story house. look at the pictures with the front on view of the guards standing there by the door for a height reference. I would say for sure the speeder could get up to the large flat rock, but not up to the gun itself, if that helps.

ok, whatever man, we don't need to discuss it, I was just trying to help. I presented the challenge, it is up to you all to figure out how to proceed. I can think of several possible options and I am sure there are many more that you guys can come up with, that's the fun of gaming.
I was just reminding you that a speeder is a hovering motorcycle, not a flying machine, since your character would know that, so the player doesn't go 1 way and then get frustrated at the end when it doesn't work the way you envision it.

is everyone ok with the current map setup on the "fighting with flak" thread?
I took the last instructions each player gave me. So if that is correct, we can get this party started!

Rakhu thinks daxx is a loose canon as a companion, but probably still preferable to typical jedi...
One rakhu sees the plan abandoned he stays with t'son.

Ok - so when I get home, I will move Rakhu to the middle of the left side of the map and place your token next to T'son.
we will have Daxx and Sharn going across the left flank of the hilltop - which is the top of the map - towards the Garindan, Trandoshan and the speeder.
we will have T'son and Rakhu going up the middle of the hilltop - which is the middle of the map - in between the above mentioned enemies and the guy with the 2 droids, essentially straight up towards the set of blast doors on the map

"Amatuers indeed. SGT Raku, since our compoanions seem intent on starting a melee rather than iniating an ambush, I reccomend we flex to the right side. We can support them by fire if needed, or just move briskly to the gun and comeplete the mission while they are.....pursuing their distractions".
Alan - you cool with hugging the right side of the map? With this new plan, I think the middle is going to be hotter than we aniticpated.
GM - If Alan agrees, please adjust accodringly.

And your calling ME "Monty" ? LOL! This isnt strategy, this is tactics, and thats MY HOUSE SUCKA! hahahaha!
The intial plan would have most likely created an entire surprise round where we could engage from a distance, seriously weakening them before they got to shoot back. Not only does moving up close into melee negate the advanatge of standoff weapons, it restricts our ability to utilze heavy/area effect weapons because you and Sharn will be within burst radius. Additionally, you two being so close together leaves us vulnerable to grenades and other AOE attacks. We arnt the only ones carrying grenades and AOE weapons! Ideally, we need to stay 5-6 sqaures away frome each other in these fights, so burst attacks cant take us apart in chunks.

close combat sucks for p vs p. Can you actually play a campaign vs another player in those, or just a battle?

I have digital copies of a few of the re-releases. You can indeed play campaigns or operations - not certain why you think it sucks in pvp, I always had great fun fighting Chris and Ryan. Fighting you was just too easy to be entertaining for very long....

ooh, snap!
I had fun, even getting zerged by your waves of flamethrowing Vietnamese... I will never forget those battles in Ryan's basement
I seem to recall we did a campaign, or part of one, in the Normandy invasion one. you could plot moves, supply lines and then you did individual map fights too, I think

Re: Episode I, chapter 1
I don't remember a consensus of any plan. You guys seem to post more often than I. I don't agree decisions be made until everyone has a chance to chime in. Then everyone agrees. I did see some cool tactics from Matt and Alan, but there was never any plan agreed-upon.
These tactics are interesting, but also quite metagamey. I'm trying to play my character. Sharn wants to help, but he sees a racial enemy. He also wishes to secure the speeder bike for the attack.
Now being that our characters have just met, shouldn't we be role-playing out this discussion? Maybe that's too dull? Maybe it would add realism to the scene. It's still an RPG.
Cinematically, how much plan did Luke and Han have for busting Leia out of the Death Star? You guys are acting like we're some honed commando unit, or something. That's great, but all this discussion is very outside of what's going on in the present scene.
As for AOE, I'm sorry if you guys don't get to blast the whole field now. It's just one little corner of a hilltop that we'll be attacking. You are still free to use ranged attacks. It would actually be appreciated! Sharn doesn't use any standard ranged attacks, except for the Force.

I think you have some wonderful points Rob. However, I'd argue that Rahku is pretty experienced with this sort of thing, so he might try to script out a plan.
as for Daxx... makes it up as he goes along. He's not dumb enough to go in before the big guns have sounded off though...
and frankly, we've been gaming for too long for there to not be SOME meta-gaming. I will state this again.. this format makes 'normal' gaming more difficult. It's harder to plan, discuss and implement ideas. Just a side-effect that has to be dealt with... this has been the case since the Conan campaign that Chris and I started years ago.

Or we could get on with the combat
Sharn is being quiet. He points at the Trandoshan. The wookie communicates his intentions with gestures. He acts as if to put the Trandoshan in a headlock, then mimics twisting his head off.

As a player, I am totally fine with this going down however - I genuinely am ok with however this goes, and whatever folks do with their characters.
- But be advised -
We were in the process of roleplaying the discusion when you snuck forward, we had made comments in character, and were kicking around a few ideas and getting some clairifications while waiting for your input . You just up and went - without talking to US. We didnt cut you out.
Raku and Tson are both experienced soldiers, and we are playing them that way. "Metagamey" would be experinced soldiers holding hands and singing cumbyah when a media star decides to engage in melee without regard for how that would effect the mission. THAT would be "metagamey". You can surely roleplay Sharn your way, but that doesnt mean that other characters are going like what your doing.
Now lets kick some ass!
