The small crossroads town of Starfel, near a bridge (west) that crosses a shallow gorge. At the bottom is a small river. The town proper is encompased by a ragged picket to keep out wild animals. A single police box guards each gate. At the crossroads is a town square featuring an Inn, a smithy, a general store, a stable, a crooked old tower, (the original building in town). The ground floor is a library/museum. No-one but the old curator and his apprentice sees the upstairs.
Starfel has a few other buildings including maybe 20 houses and specialty trade shops.
The squire's garrisson has two half filled and neglected barraks, its own stable, the squire's elaborate but run-down cottage, a small jail, and an armory. There is 1 lieutennant, 1 quartermaster, 2 sergeants, 7 men-at-arms, 4 archers, 1 game warden, 1 cavalry scout, 1 butler, 1 cook, 1 maid, and a grumpy mute maintenence dwarf.
To the west, across the bridge and off the board, lies the larger town of Blackrock, controlled by a Lord Knight. In between are spotted farms and pastures. Further west are plains known for its inhabitants excellent eye for horseflesh.
To the north, the land is a less habitable badlands, though there lies Starfall's squire's compound with a low wall and a single guard tower on the edge of town.
East lies a mountain range, and some very good hunting. In between are sparce and less prosperous farms.
South and down the gorge a ways is a 3 story millhouse with a paddle wheel in the river. The building climbs the gorge in kittywampus steps to a small shanty at the west rim of the gorge.
Southeast is a valley that the Lord Knight's grudging trade partners and friendly sporting rivals call home. At its center, on the river, lies the booming enlightened city of Aris, ruled by a council of regents. The tiny island of Tyne floats in the center of the city. It is a fortress and a practice city for the crown prince to rule until he comes of age.
It is a time of peace and unprecedented trade prosperity. Few veterans from old wars bear a grudge anymore.
