Ivar’s people were poor, downtrodden, and all but enslaved. The landlord owned the town, the iron mine, and everything else worth owing, including everyone's land. The landlord took everything he wanted and his henchmen guaranteed that the people could do nothing until one very large Goliath could take no more…
Ivar was good with horses and cattle and he was so strong and tough that people say he could fell one hundred trees a day, all by himself. When the landlord learned of Ivar, he tried to make him the new enforcer of the landlord’s will. When Ivar refused, the landlord set his henchmen on him.
….but Ivar held out and kept fighting. And seeing this, the people rose with their tools and implements and killed the landlord’s henchmen. They then lynched the landlord and took their freedom back. Now the people run the iron mine and handle their own affairs. All because of one brave Goliath that had enough.
At least what the song says (think of a much worse version of the ballad of Jayne from Firefly).
Ivar is ruddy skinned and dark haired. He wears simple clothes and a smile on his face. Until he sees injustice; then the chances of his attacking the tyrant are about 50/50.
