You got this, Matt!
When I moved out here I had Ryan Morrison, a place to stay, and a Toyota full of belongings.
A good reminder! I've got to get things stabilized a bit...probably?! Kinda torn between a deliberate withdrawal or a hasty "break-contact". Have to develop the situation a bit yet.
Chris - I agree about "game terms"!

Re: OoG during Pirates
Bartitsu: the forgotten art of gentlemen’s defense
As mentioned, Barton-Wright became fairly interested in the Japanese fighting skills nurtured by jujitsu, adding it to his earlier knowledge of European martial arts like boxing. To this mix, he included the more street-oriented styles such as the French kickboxing, also known as savate, and stick fighting, cane de combat, which promoted the use of a walking cane or an umbrella as a weapon of self-defense. The basis for a new and eclectic martial art was born.
In 1899, the Englishman returned to London with the intention of further developing his idea of mixing these styles in order to create his own special blend of martial arts, intended for well-to-do gentlemen who were facing the rise of street crime in Edwardian England.

Re: OoG during Pirates
Ok, guys, I need some super gamer brain power here. This is from a case, so I can't give any background info, but does anyone recognize this symbol?
To me it looks kind of like a free mason or also like an inverted pentagram, but both are missing the extra 2 lower arms. I can't get any better resolution as this is literally only on the video for 1 second or less, and this is a screen grab. It is on a cell phone, right after the user swipes off their 'sleep' screen and just before the home screen with the icons appears, if that helps

That isn't a Freemason symbol as near as I can tell. I've seen a bunch of their iconography and it doesn't look like one of theirs.
I'd almost suggest it's a music symbol (for some band)? Not sure though. What does that writing say?

hey Rob!
they just started the BOSS FIGHT of the volcano dungeon. we have not even made it 1 round. That being said, the fight could take a week at forum speed.
I will leave it up to the group to decide. We can certainly fudge Rob into this fight at the end of the round or wait until the story resolves to the next chapter.
The attorneys all had too much coffee this morning and everyone is in a panic. I will update the fight later today, sorry, I have to go serve last-minute subpoenas that I asked to do 2 weeks ago....

the only brother duo that I remember was the Treescrubbers who followed the "Cooooooode of the Hills!"
if I recall, they were a Ranger and Wizard pair?
it would be best not to have 2 identical classes

I REMEMBER THAT, lol! Don't know if I was around when played but I've heard you tell the story.
IMO, even with identical classes, there are enough differences available within a class after 3rd level (or through multi-classing during progression) that it wouldn't matter too much when role-played well.

I think the Ranger had a pig companion and the wizard rode a farm cow... or maybe it was the other way around
in general, I would agree, but Barbarian is a narrowly focused class, imo. the options are more-offensive, more-defensive or more-balanced killing machine
I could see 2 fighters with a Battlemaster and\or Champion and\or Eldritch Knight
2 rogues could be a swashbuckler and an arcane trickster
2 clerics of War and Healing
etc etc etc
its all just speculative theorycrafting at this point anyways

Barbarian is likely the worst choice for the concept unless it was to splash a level each and then diverge. I've thought that a "wizard only" party/campaign could be fun, with different players specializing in different schools of magic.

totem barb + druid of the moon = rage works with 'class abilities' so can still burn spell slots to heal while shapeshifted, resistance to everything, massive effective HP pool, since using a shapeshift is essentially a free full heal
berserker barb + warlock - rage + fiend's self heal on kill
1/2 orc berserker barb + champion fighter = reckless attack (ADV) + improved crit range + great wpn master feat. Frenzy extra attack, 2 rolls per attack to crit on 19-20 for 3d12, chances to keep swinging on kill or crit
barb multiclasses have some wicked combos, but all still in the killing machine category

Lol, no doubt! Barbarian definitely is skewed towards pure combat. For multi-class, its a great start point for low-level survivability. Splash one level and you get weapon profs, str boost through rage, unarmored defense, along with some tough saves - Make that low level wizard a little more badass.

The "physical standard" is to complete a 3-mile ruck in 45 minutes with a 45 lb pack. Being out of shape is going to make it painful, but I can do it. If I had a month warning to train it would be nothing. As it is, I'll make due with 2.5 weeks to prepare and suck it up -I'd be looking to get on an engine or helo crew, leave the chainsaw work to the young ones with better backs
I can also use the certification to get wildland fire work here in WI, or anywhere. With my emergency management/homeland security experience = Options!

Thanks, I will give it hell and count the physical toll when I'm done, lol!
My Army buddy who lives in Delta, CO used to do this, he turned me on to the opportunity. We've been talking about starting a wildland fire support company - our goal is to have a water tender truck we can lease to state/feds in 2020 in order to get it launched. Wildland fire is becoming increasingly privatized, a lot of the heavy equipment they use, and many teams, are already acquired on lease. Shit ain't gonna stop catching fire, and the trend is towards more resources being needed. Between his wildland XPs, My emergency management/homeland security XPs, and us both being disabled vets, we've got a good chance of funding and standing this thing up within a few years.

I did my WF classes at Fire Camp in Salida, CO and the pack test had me puking. Take this will all the love in my heart...it is nearly impossible for someone over 40 with no experience to get a decent job that isn't strictly cleanup duty. Call me if you want to chat about the certification course or training at altitude options.

Great minds think alike! Our intent is to recruit primarily vets when we hit a point that we can expand. Use the familiar military structure we all have in common and feel comfortable with. Ideally, this would also open up additional funding for us - employing vets attracts grants and such. Our "big picture" vision is a company that can do disaster reconnaissance, SAR, and wildland fire missions.

A little puking never stopped me, lol! You make a salient point about placement. Having spoken to the training guy putting it on - The cool thing about this opportunity is that it a veteran's pipeline/non-competitive placement. The course is designed to give us a look at wildland fire, pass the cert, and then they are going to fill about 20 positions based on what they see. They are filling positions that are not "handcrew" - engines and helo, i.e. If that doesn't happen, I still get paid to train and can use the cert in places where the market may not be as saturated. It will also give me a survey of the skillset, which will be useful in starting/running this company me and my buddies are plotting. Plus - ADVENTURE!!!
When would be a good time to call?
