    The tavern is a chaotic mess!

    A farmer takes issue with Herger punching his cousin and swings wildly, but misses both times.

    Olf and Ulf laugh at the brawl until farmer Eallum decks Olf and knocks him down. Or was that Ulf?

    Bort stands on a chair and calls for end to the violence. He it hit in the head by a thrown metal mug for his trouble.

    Delma runs out the front door calling for the sheriff while the severs duck under tables.

    Hallod makes a running tackle and flies out the front door with a poor farmer, barely missing drunken Sir Kent as he stumbles outside.

    Round 1 ends with 1/3 farmers subdued

    A solid BOP on the chin is enough punctuation for this farmer.  He backs off and leaves. The drunken bar brawl has ended.

    As soon as the partys bring the fight to an end, Delma
    returns with Rolth Garley, the town’s sheriff, who
    takes all the offending farmers to a table in the
    corner for a stern talking to (this is about all the
    offense warrants and, besides, the town has no
    jail).

    If the characters try to help after
    the fight is over, Rolth half-heartedly thanks them
    for their assistance, but dismissively tells them that
    their help is no longer needed.

    After the brawl, Bort invites the characters back to
    the table to finish their meal and enjoy a round of
    drinks. Dessert was served before the fight began,
    and Bort proclaims to all that the turnip porridge
    here is his favorite, which explains the extra large
    bowl of it sitting before him.

    Just a few minutes into his
    dessert, Bort begins to cough and choke. Playing this
    off as a bit of indigestion, he continues whatever tale
    he was in the middle of telling.

    A few moments later it
    is clear, as the coughing returns, that he is in distress.
    He begins to turn purple and his mouth begins
    frothing. Seconds after, his eyes roll into his head and
    a rumble can be heard in his guts.

    Delma replies to Grimgar, “We ain't had one of them chymist witches for almost 20 years!"  


    Bort attempts his Fortitude save to resist,
    but the amount put in his porridge is just too great.
    He fails every save against the poison
    and dies.

    After Bort collapses, townsfolk gather round to see what all
    the commotion is about. A few moments later, Delma
    and Rolth make their way to the table to see what is
    happening.

    As they witness Grimgar trying to help,
    it’s clear the characters were not responsible, but at first,
    everyone is just concerned for the dwarf’s well-being.

    Once it’s clear he is dead, the tavern goes silent, and
    everyone begins eyeing one another (and their food).

    As the town’s only real member of law enforcement,
    Rolth Garley is incompetent. He is the mayor’s nephew
    and rarely does anything other than settle disputes over
    livestock and break up the occasional drunken brawl.

    In fact, the town has not had a crime reported in years,
    so when Bort dies, Rolth realizes he’s in over his head.

    The sheriff’s first inclination is to
    cover the body, take everyone at the
    table and all the members of the caravan out
    to the stables, and talk to each person in
    turn about what happened.

    In the meantime, Delma closes the kitchen and
    sends most of the other townsfolk home, including
    her staff (although Trin and Phinick are already gone).



    Would Grimgar or Herger like to do anything or just wait out Rolth's interrogations of the caravan members and the rest of the tables?

    Yes, the turnip porridge was definitely poisoned and Grimgar recognizes a faint floral odor coming from Bort's bowl not present in the others.  He thinks it might be "Violet Breath" an alchemical poison that is derived from violet fungus.

    Amora, the cook, seems slightly relieved that it was not her cooking or some type of food poisoning.

    Working tonight at the Feedmill are the following:  
    Kolnral (Zontreaux met his wife and child) and Trin are serving the guests tonight,
    while Delma tends bar and Amora is busy in the
    kitchen. Phinick, a goblin with a squeaky voice, can be seen doing odd jobs all over but once dinner begins, he spends most of his time helping Amora in the kitchen.

    By the time dinner starts, Sir Lawren (Herger met at the bar) is deep into his cups, leaning back
    dangerously in his chair, while Farmer Eallom is busy
    gambling and getting drunk with Olf and Ulf (work for Bort).

    Herger has not seen any violet fungus today or at all recently.  


    The party can interrupt the inept sheriff at any time you choose.


    Sheriff Rolth begins pulling people aside to the stables 1 at a time.  
    He asks such hard-hitting questions as, "Did you see anything unusual?  
    Are you suuuure?  uh... ok.  You are free to leave."

    Upon finishing his questioning, Rolth realizes
    that there is no clear suspect, and that no member
    of the caravan can be ruled out. As the town has no
    jail, he informs everyone he will need to turn this
    investigation over to a circuit judge who visits the
    town occasionally to deal with serious legal matters
    and crimes.

    Unfortunately, the judge, Lord Mubbage
    Cranberry, is not due back for another month, so
    everyone is stuck here until then.

    The drunken farmers begin to stagger off towards their homes.  Tamli, Olf and Ulf
    plan to gather at the caravan wagon and share memories of Bort.

    Sheriff Rolth talks to Grimgar and Herger privately.  He is amazed and a little embarrassed that you have done actual work on solving Bort's death while he has learned nothing of note so far.  He quietly admits that he has no idea what he is doing and only ever settles disputes about livestock or scolds drunken farmers.  Rolth drops a not-so-subtle request for the party's help, "If..... someone... solved Bort's murder, then the caravan wouldn't be held in town for a month awaiting Magistrate Cranberry."  He adds in a whisper, "And I would personally be grateful the help."

    "As for what mushrooms grow around here.... you might ask Almora, the cook.   If she isn't in the kitchen, she lives out by the orchard west of town."  


    As for a manifest or information about the caravan, Tamli the half-orc teamster boss, would be next in line and probably the person to ask.  She, Olf and Ulf were planning on a meeting at the caravan to share a bottle of wine.

    The party begins searching around the old orchard. Herger spots a gigantic bee hive in the one of the trees. The large bees do not take well the intruders and they begin to swarm up for attack.

    Since Herger spotted the hive, I will give you 1 round if you want to do something. If not, roll initiative!

    Yes and Yes

    Feel free to call out your exploration activities. If you are not in combat or resting, you are basically always in exploration mode.

    I will try to remember to be a better GM and ask for them too drunken
