2nd level characters in Nations & Cannons begin play
with their choice of a starting equipment package
or with £ 20 to purchase equipment.

Salary
If characters are successful on a mission, they each earn
a £ 10 salary from the army or nation that gave them the

I am leaning towards a Son of Liberty Rogue or Monk (Kensei with guns = Gunk)
but I am flexible to other's desires as well. I mean, a big ole Hessian Grenadier sounds pretty amazing too!

I was going to go with 50 pounds (sorry, can't find the 'pound' sign at the moment). That way you can start with any one piece of equipment/weaponry that is listed an other things (the Jager Rifle is pretty expensive). This should cover starting money and rewards along the way.

You may also start with one weapon that has the Masterwork Grip as listed under Gunsmith's Tools

I think that is a reasonable amount. No cannons to start with (I think that should be obvious). But that doesn't mean you couldn't steal one, acquire one or otherwise.

I am toying with the idea of allowing bonus languages for higher Int. scores. This is something that has annoyed me about 5E in general over the years. I don't want to make many house rules, but that might be one.. just so you guys can all talk to other pc's, villains, etc. etc. It would just cover speaking languages at this point, not full fluency.

I think that makes a lot of sense for extra languages given that there are no easy magic items or spells to cover that like in D&D

Couple things I don’t get:

Some items let you “equip” extra weapons. What does that mean?

Some weapons have “versatility” but don’t explain how it works. In regular 5e that’s usually 1 or 2 handed but that seems strange for light weapons and firearms.

Equipped is actually one of my favorite new rules!  I think we should incorporate it into other 5e games.

Equipping Items
In Nations & Cannons, you can only draw and stow equipped
weapons during combat. Weapons you are wielding in your
hands count as being equipped. You can equip additional
weapons by wearing certain pieces of wargear. For example,
if you wear a boot sheath or hunting pouch, you can equip a
coat pistol in addition to the musket you hold in your hands.

Weapons at the Ready
You can draw and stow one equipped weapon as part of
each attack you make when you take the Attack action. For
example, if you have the Extra Attack feature and have a
loaded musket equipped, you can make an attack with your
musket, stow the musket and draw your pistol from your
boot sheath, and make your second attack with the pistol.

If not, are you still thinking a rogue for your 2nd?

I was going to make either a ranger or a rogue, depending on what you did.  Since I kind of picked first, I figured you could pick the next 2 and then I would pick last in a "reverse snake", if you will.

I am not making two grenadiers. Jeaupear was originally going to be a rogue but he just evolved into something uniquely inspired as I worked on him. He can handle the locks and traps if he notices them. He’s not a great point man, but he can certainly sneak right along with the point man. 

Go ahead and make either of your ideas. I might go “regular army” with the next character.

Mike is in as of our conversation tonight. Pick the best character you have made up or even make another if you wish. Mike said he would read through the basic book (the short one) this weekend and would then make a character.

It has been a crazy busy fall and summer. Evan is doing middle school BB, which is a whole new animal for us. Is Caleb doing any HS sports or activities?

Yeah he's 3/4 of the year with swimming for club and high school and he runs cross country for school in fall. Toss in orchestra concerts with the cello and we don't sit still for long.

Mike pointed this out to me tonight. If there is something that your class should have and it isn't referred to in the short core book for this, then assume it's part of your character's abilities. For example: Ranger still gets the fighting style but it's the one from the new book for this game.

Also, assume that your character can ride a horse for purposes of travel. If you want to be combat capable from horseback, then use the proper rules from the core book. I will address this more if necessary.

Right, because what's in the N&C book is only the archetypes, its not a new class. So Barbarian gets all the barb stuff from D&D 5e and the only things from N&C would be the Grenadier archetype, background, origin (race), etc. All the Feats (subject to logic and DM approval) are still available. N&C just offers new feats.


I would say the old Gunnery feat is out because it lets you ignore reload completely.

Hey guys - Appreciate you circling back.

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I'm still heavily scheduled through at least the 15th. Just got off the road after two weeks travel, have Dr appointments what is left of this week, my VA claim exam monday & mom's knee surgery tuesday in Madison. Not really any white space in there.

Beyond that, I'm looking to launch back on the road around Dec 28th. Aiming to spend the winter somewhere mild, kick around the desert SW. That gives me about a 5-6 week window where I'd be able to participate before my access challenges & posting pace would be an obstacle.

Doesn't look like this game/schedule will line up for me. Have fun fellas.

Hey friends,

I just wanted to let everyone know from me before you saw it somewhere else.... they filed charges against Nick late last week.
The clerk posted the charges publicly, which is a bit odd, but it is public knowledge now.

He has been charged with a class X felony sexual assault on a child (1 count) and the lesser included. The warrant has nationwide reach.

His attorney has advised him to turn himself in. I have not had any contact with him and I don't know where he is. Carole doesn't know where he is, so please be nice to her if you see her. Her husband ran away and abandoned her, on top of everything else. Carole will be coming to CO for a month soon and has a housesitter.

Personally, I hope he turns himself in and apologizes. It would be the best for the whole family and give him the best chance at a favorable plea deal.

I appreciate all the support for my friends, but I am really talked out about this for now.
