    Ok, we don't have 1 map that was actually correct during the King's turn.  CR3, JT and Elliot were all surrounding him.  So the issue is not an AoO based on his movement.  The issue is that there are 3 AoO on the King as he "attempts" to cast his Spell as a Standard action.  He didn't\couldn't use "cast defensively"  so any damage that all 3 of us might do - would force a concentration check and possibly prevent him from turning into mist at all.  This isn't about killing him before he flees - it is about stopping him from being able to flee at all.

    **now if the GM just wants his main villain to escape, there are numerous ways to block the mechanics of combat, but technically speaking, there are 3 AoO that can interrupt the King's transformation into mist***

    from PF:
    An attack of opportunity “interrupts” the normal flow of actions in the round. If an attack of opportunity is provoked, immediately resolve the attack of opportunity

    Injury: If you take damage while trying to cast a spell, you must make a concentration check with a DC equal to 10 + the damage taken + the level of the spell you're casting. If you fail the check, you lose the spell without effect.


    If something interrupts your concentration while you're casting, you must make a concentration check or lose the spell. When you make a concentration check, you roll d20 and add your caster level and the ability score modifier used to determine bonus spells of the same type.

    so his concentration would be 10 + total damage from 3 AoO + level of  spell.  If even 1-2 of us hit.... we have a chance to thwart his escape.  This doesn't affect any other actions that have occured, so it isn't even a "retcon rewind".  the only thing it affects is whether the King can turn into mist or not

    He would have moved in the first place, no more than 2 AoOs would have been possible.

    I'm allowing the attack... it's actually a Supernatural Ability (I finally found the section on this)... you can have attacks of opportunity to address the fact that he's using an action to move... normally, there are on AoOs on supernatural abilities.

    JT's attack hits. I will allow Elliot one as well as I missed the movement that he had stated. He would have moved in that direction and then changed... that's the best I can do.

    lol! ok, whatever man.  You said you looked at it and it was a Spell - so that is how I reacted to it.  If it is now a SU, which doesn't provoke AoO, then there is nothing to interrupt, lol.

    If JT was reacting to his movement, since now he is moving first and then using his ability (retcon), then JT would not have used a Hero pt on a movement based AoO.

    Since this is the last fight and the end of the chapter, it doesn't really matter, I suppose.

    it was my mistake, hence why I am still allowing for the AoOs. It's badly worded, IMO. It's described (as the Spell Gaseous From) but it's a supernatural ability. That was my error.

    you don't need to use the Hero Point.. I'll allow that to be taken back.

    no worries, you actually did it legally to begin with, it just confused in the explanation.

    movement - yes AoO but ineffective vs mist form

    I jumped on it when I thought it was a spell, not an SU, but then it would be a pretty worthless vampiric ability

    Elliot steps back to hex 0405, and makes one vicious attack against each mummy.

    First attack (mummy in 0406) 1d20+12 (11+12)=23
    If that hits, damage: 1d4+6+2d6 vs evil ( 2+6+3+4)= 15 (7 holy)

    Second attack on other mummy: 1d20+7 (16+7)=23
    Damage: 1d4+6+2d6 vs evil (1+6+6+1)=14 (7 holy)

    Elliot jumps between the corpses and slashes at the first tattered, desiccated body,, turning with his momentum and following through by stabbing into the body of the second.

    jeez! Nice roll... uh yeah, there's a secret mechanism along the north wall (similar to the last tomb chamber) that looks like it activates a secret door.
