"I'll be in the foyer, Rothschild. Please see me when you get the bags settled."
CJC, his hound at his feet, goes to grab a seat and read the paper, looking for news of interest.

How much did Olivia's new threads cost?
She intercepts the concierge. "The Colonel requires a suite, One that is large and luxurious, and has separate beds to accommodate... his entourage."

If Olivia is trying to blend in with the locals, she should not be talking to men about business. She should sit near the Colonel, avoid eye contact with other men and remain silent unless spoken to by the Colonel
just sayin.....

JT will look for any British Military in the lobby and approach any he finds, particularly engineers, but any grunts will suffice

You see several lower rank officer's at a table (Lieutenants) and a few non-coms also at another table having tea while discussing the contents of the paper... you've gathered that something really bad just happened in Damascus. (more to come)

Elliot joins Olivia and the concierge, and casts Olivia a brief, stern look before speaking to the man. He hopes she understands and that he doesn't incur too much of her wrath..
"Yes, my good man.. we have a suite reserved in the name of Colonel Jim Corbett."
He nods in the direction of the distinguished gentleman, who is lounging in a comfortable looking chair reading the papers.
"The Colonel would like to check in. And send a bellhop around to Col. Corbett's car to collect his luggage as well, if you please."

I don't recall asking anyone how I'm supposed to roleplay my character. Thanks.

Olivia takes the the hint from Elliot and remains silent. She is dressed to blend in, but realizes she has a long ways to go before she might successfully infiltrate this foreign culture. She doesn't know the language, and besides, her Caribbean accent is a dead giveaway that she is only a tourist.

JT will stroll up to the table of soldiers (not the officers) and announce himself quietly, "G'day gents. Vickers, royal engineers, 3rd division. Mind if I join you for a spot of tea?"

The bell boy snaps to.. (nice roll!)
The soldiers that JT speaks to immediately acknowledge him and move a chair out for him... "bly me, didja see this mess, mate?" He points to the paper.
(Just to say it, Egyptians, while very much Muslims, are not unfamiliar with British women, who are far more open and different from their own. Allowances are made for western women, Olivia)
The newspaper (which everyone seems to be reading and discussing) has this headline "Strange beast reported near site of great fire in Damascus"
the body of the story details what people are already calling a 'dragon' being sighted after a massive earthquake and fire that occurred in Damascus late in the day, two days ago. Reportedly, this took place not far from some ancient Babylonian ruins. The story is told from several ‘eye-witness’ accounts that there was an earthquake and then the sky was “filled with a terrifying beast” that had “wings like a demon” and was "reptilian” in appearance.
French Authorities in the Mandate government quickly assured the public that, although an earthquake took place, “reports of a flying beast are ludicrous and unfounded”. They noted that the French 5th air wing was operating in the area on night maneuvers.

"Yes Rothschild, ALL of the luggage. We cant just leave the bags out in the street for every pickpocket, cutpurse and filcher. SOMETIMES, Rothschild, SOMETIMES!" declares the COLONEL (with a smirk and no shortage of sarcastic mirth) as his attention returns to the paper.
His jovial mood goes sour quickly reading the report of "draconic" beast in Damascus. How would one hunt a creature of such power?
He sips his tea quietly, brooding in the lobby......

Syria is under control of a French "Mandate" government after it was given independence from the former (and now deceased) Ottoman Empire. It's not a colony, per se, but it's more or less run by Paris.

Ok, Elliot is ready when everyone else is. He'd rather keep any conversations with Norris out of public earshot.. He is carrying his own scant luggage.

In the interest of moving this forward. Norris finds all of you and invites you to a private room upstairs. His bodyguard from earlier is with him and both of them look very tired and a bit beat up.
"I'm sure you all have questions... it's been a rough couple of days."
Assuming that you tell him about what you have found out, he is very grateful. We can use this as a sort of prep session for your journey ahead.

Norris's eyes get a bit wide at the information about the tomb... then he sits down (after pouring a drink) and has a look of resignation on his face. "I was afraid of this, the persons that attacked you in the desert... were you able to determine if they were members of the Circle of Apophis?"

I didn't hurt anyone did I?"

Did you harm him in some way?" He looks like a man that is definitely out of sorts at the moment.

it is just too hard to actually roleplay retelling a story from multiple threads and several months, we all forget things

Re: The Forgotten Tomb
Elliot has been standing by listening to the exchange... he helped himself to a cocktail from the bar in Norris's room, and he sips it occasionally.
He doesn't have much to add; JT told the story well.
After a thoughtful pause he says..
"Whatever is out there, the Circle of Apophis wants it badly. Badly enough they're willing to kill -or die- to get it. Clearly they believe it is something very important, and powerful.."
He hesitates, but then continues
"What is it that both the Circle and the OMP both wish to posess so badly? Is there anything you haven't told us, Mr. Norris?"
His voice wavers a bit..
"You see, sir, after what I saw in the trenches of Europe.. Im not so certain that I have enough faith left in mankind to deliver to ANYONE something which may be used as a powerful weapon."
He takes another drink of his whiskey old fashioned, and his eyes empty into a thousand yard stare. In his mind, he is back in France, reliving the horrors he witnessed there.
"Perhaps what is lost should stay lost..." He muses, mostly to himself.

Re: The Forgotten Tomb
"you're very wise, Mr. Martin." Norris pauses, takes another drink and sits forward a bit in his chair... the light in the room gives his face an almost sinister look...
"The Circle is out to release something... or rather many somethings, and set them upon the world. They are dedicated to the chaos and destruction that is their ancient god's creed."
"Ten years ago, when I was serving in the British Army in Egypt and fighting the Turks, I was stationed in Alexandria for three months. I was a Lieutenant and had several free hours on my hands quite frequently... in my travels and poking amongst the ruins of the old city, I came upon a cache of relics. As I dug more, I found more... what I came to find out was that I had found part of the ancient library of Alexandria. For those that don't know, this magnificent storehouse of ancient writings and knowledge was destroyed, for the final time, in 391 AD. While many of the scrolls and items that I found were badly damaged or just fragments, there were also several that were intact."
He pauses for another drink.... "what I am about to tell you is strictly confidential, please. I found an ancient manuscript written by a Greek mathematician and alchemist that predicted the world would enter a new "phase" near the beginning of this century. It was not precise of course. There was also a very brief story amongst a collection of ancient tales that spoke of a 'rising of the dark ones.' I do not know what this means precisely, nor do any of the other members of the OMP." He looks sad for a moment when he mentions the OMP.
"You may have noticed that I look rather tired and worse for the wear? I have just come from fighting more of the Circle's minions, as has my friend over there (he nods to the Turk, who's now asleep). The Circle planned and tried to execute an assassination attempt on the Khedive late last night. The came very close to killing him. We lost three other OMP members last night... (he pauses in some sadness). However, one of the Circle was captured and, before he could poison himself, I was able to get a small bit of information out of him. He said that the "great ones will arise and their will be nothing but endless war to appease Apophis and his faithful'... then he bit into a false tooth full of poison and died."
"From what Rashid told you, and I'm very happy you found out the piece of that puzzle, if it is Thutmosis and he is something with powers like that... I would venture that he could be the first vampire. I am sorry to tell you that I believe that the 'first' or progenitor of the lycanthropes has already been found and resurrected in Russia, but this is not confirmed yet."
"As for Damascus.... your guess is as good as mine (he smiles). The French would never admit to what it really was any more than his majesty's government in London would admit such a thing. There is too much to panic the people as it is. I would like to ask you to journey to Thebes and then find this tomb that is beyond the ancient ruins. I cannot do much to help you at the moment but I can enlist the aid of the Khedive, who is much friendlier to myself and the British government now that we've saved his pompous arse."
(pause for questions, comments)

JT pulls out an old map of Egypt from his rucksack, "Pardon me, Mr. Norris, but neither a road nor crossing the desert is not the wisest path. We are in Alexandria currently, the fastest and safest route would be by boat. We are near the mouth of the Nile and Thebes\Luxor is also off the Nile due south. Everything in Egypt is based on this ancient river."
JT lays out his maps to illustrate
"We may need camels to get to the tomb site itself, but we should get to Thebes by boat. Can the OMP arrange naval passage for us? We should be able to requisition camel jockeys in Thebes"

When Norris is distracted by the maps, JT looks at Elliot, rolls his eyes and silently mouths, "officers!"

Re: The Forgotten Tomb
JT raises his hand again, "So Mr. Norris... what ezactly are we supposed to do when we get there? The Circle knows the location, since they had the map in their possession at the train station. I'd figure they have an 'ole army of their lackeys about, digging the place up.... I am not sure, tactically speaking, what you espect the lot of us to accomplish. Maybe the Royal Air Force should just bomb the 'ole dig site from above?"
JT looks about at his companions, "Any of you got esperience fighting a vampire? I don't really fancy romantical comedies myself, so I never read that Stoker bloke's book. So I wouldn't 'ave the first idea of 'ow to deal with one, let alone one surrounded by the entire Circle."

Re: The Forgotten Tomb
"Be not afraid, gentlemen! Vampires can be destroyed, though it is difficult. From what I have heard, they are often very old creatures indeed. A vast amount of treasure and knowledge might be gathered from the site. How many children could we feed with that? We mustn't sacrifice the loot to an airstrike.
"I do have a few spells that may be useful, such as Detect Undead and Command Undead. Perhaps we should hire on some folk that have clerical abilities or occultic knowledge that would augment the party.
"It was agreed earlier that we should resist informing the government about these matters. Likely they are infested with Circle cultists, or they will have their own agenda altogether. I don't think they are to be trusted. This riddle is ours alone to solve. Perhaps there are other experts we can consult or hire-on to accompany us."

Norris replies, "I'm not so certain that they do know where it is, at least, not exactly. You might be able to win the race to reach this tomb. Their numbers aren't so large, but their ability to twist people's minds is what makes them formidable."
"... as for Vampires, the OMP has compiled as much as we can on them over the years.... a stake through the heart and removing the head nearly always does the job, and they cannot stand fire." (he pauses and manages a smile) "That tomb could be so far beneath the ground that none of the RAFs bombs would even dent it."
....nice try though

JT raises an eyebrow, "Or we might be leading them straight to the tomb?!?! The Circle obviously knows who we are now and probably knows that we have the map fragment. They are going to be looking for us in particular. If we arrive in Thebes and start off into the desert, they are sure to follow us."
JT looks down as he wrings his gnarled hands together, "And if this is a race as you suggest... that we get there first and attempt to stake Thutmosis before the Circle can awaken him.... what if we awaken him by entering his tomb, in the first place? We could be doing exactly what the Circle wants... enter the tomb, set off its traps, arouse his guardians and awaken the beast. The Circle is devious, perhaps they let the map fall into your hands, knowing that the OMP would go to the tomb and do their dirty work for them."
"If Thutmosis is as a great a threat as you suggest... the Progenitor of all vampires, the OMP should be committing all their resources to destroy him. It seems almost intentional that you are suggesting we go into his tomb, half blind and under-manned..... "
JT stops short, suddenly feeling paranoid and threatened, JT looks for Norris' bodyguard

Re: The Forgotten Tomb
"The Circle is not so powerful as they like to make people think they are... we DID just stop them from killing the leader of this country after all..."
"But you make good points, I would try to disguise myself if I were you... we can make you look the part of a 'normal' archeological expedition to Thebes, they are going on all the time. Shortly after you arrive, you could simply... slip away? You are not under watch right now. I can make sure of that."
"There is a British fort not far from Thebes, I will send ahead whatever supply requests to a friend of mine... who just happens to be the Colonel in charge of the garrison."
"As for the map fragment, I think the fact that they were coming after you means that they might not know where it is... the were trying to get it into the country after, and, the courier tried to destroy it."

Quietly, and to the side...
"Quite right, Rothschild. As we saw in India, we must be extremely cautious with those who appear to be allies. Our best bet is to secure and destroy this creature or itis artifacts before anyone else can."

"Then we must do our best to obfuscate our path, lest the Circle follow us. Perhaps we can somehow decoy them, in to heading another direction?"
