    The party enjoys a good night's rest that is absent any invasive dreams.  

    Whisp reapplies Non-detection to everyone for 8 hours and wishes you good fortune.  

    Haywire up-casts Aid giving everyone +15 max and current HP for 8 hours (remember that when you heal, you keep the higher max)

    Qhu casts Darkvision for anyone that needs it, to save Warhol some spell slots.

    You each hear his voice in your minds, "We will head towards the Mycanoid Colony, as we are not welcome among the Dwarves.  Victory is reserved for those who are willing to pay its price."


    The party again ventures into the mysterious tunnels of the Underdark.  Marvin leads the group carefully, but quickly, ahead for nearly 3 hours.  The dry tunnels give way to a tiny stream of noxious bubbling liquid that smells of rot and ammonia.  The steam becomes small pools that must be carefully avoided.

    Marvin halts the group.  Ahead he hears the sounds of.... digging and falling water.   Marvin just catches a flicker of movement low to the ground and beyond the range of his Darkvision towards the top of the map.

    Marvin creeps up behind some rocks and sees a large insect-like creature with thick chitinous armor digging through solid rock with its claws and mandibles.  

    To die, to sleep - To sleep, perchance to dream Umber_10

    The creature, which Marvin can try to identify with a Nature roll, appears to be about 5ft in a hole, giving it partial cover (not that it matters for Marvin).  The creature doesn't give any indication that it has noticed Marvin.

    The sound of running water is further behind the creature in the darkness.

    it looks familiar but Marvin isn't sure what to make of it


    Anyone can try the Nature check, but you would be a DIS if you can't see it (duh), so you would need a Stealth check to get within 60ft of it without it noticing you in return to make the Nature roll without DIS

    or let me know what else you want to do

    not really, no.  the map goes North-South representing the wide tunnel.  the digger bug is off to the side

    I widened your view artificially, even though you can't really see the right side wall with darkvision, you know approx. where the right side wall is located.


    you could all try to sneak through the middle area, I suppose, working through the rocks around L- 12 to 15ish, then keep going up the map.


    we can keep the current initiative, I will add the other folks and you can go however you want on your turn.

    Marvin bounces 2 arrows off the bug's chitinous carapace.  (thicc armor is thicc)  The acid seems to burn, but the arrows do less-than-ideal damage.  

    It is surprised and unaware, so it doesn't do anything but look around for the source of the attack.

    Marvin notices another figure when he moves to L-4.  No nature check needed as it look a whole bunch like Qhu.  Marvin spots a Mindflayer at L-3 on a rock island.  The Mindflayer is not surprised and clearly sees Marvin.  Its orange lidless eyes radiate malice.

    It has 120ft of Darkvision and saw everyone before combat started, which is why it wasn't surprised Wink

    It saw Marvin walk forward and stop, then go back, then shoot the bug, then move + hide.
    Marvin is hidden from the bug, but the Mindflayer has seen Marvin the whole time.  


    remember, hiding is not invisibility.  here are the Hiding rules, just for reference, emphasis mine

    HIDING

    The DM decides when circumstances are appropriate for hiding. When you try to hide, make a Dexterity (Stealth) check. Until you are discovered or you stop hiding, that check's total is contested by the Wisdom (Perception) check of any creature that actively searches for signs of your presence.

    You can't hide from a creature that can see you clearly, and you give away your position if you make noise, such as shouting a warning or knocking over a vase. An invisible creature can always try to hide. Signs of its passage might still be noticed, and it does have to stay quiet.

    In combat, most creatures stay alert for signs of danger all around, so if you come out of hiding and approach a creature, it usually sees you. However, under certain circumstances, the DM might allow you to stay hidden as you approach a creature that is distracted, allowing you to gain advantage on an attack roll before you are seen.

    Vasyli sets up his overwatch behind Marvin.  He casts (Action) the Firebolt spell but holds the magic suspended in the Weave.  

    He does not wait long for the squidie to enter his net....  The Mindflayer first appears at L-5 and moves to N-9.   Vasyli can use his Reaction now or let the trigger pass.  Mindflayer has partial cover, since V has to shoot through low rocks or Marvin, unless you have some way of ignoring cover penalties.  I guess per your trigger, Vasyli would take the shot at first appearance at L-5.

    Marvin goes to L-17?  that's in the open, not sure its a good spot to hide.  Maybe more like J-16 seems more "behind Vasyli"?


    at 19, big bug dig dug moves towards the direction of the arrow that hit him.  30ft feet with all the difficult terrain doesn't get him very far, so he will dash to L-14.


    Before Vasyli can go, he needs to deal with the Gaze of the Umber Hulk (bug)

    When a creature starts its turn within 30 feet of the umber hulk and is able to see the umber hulk's eyes, the umber hulk can magically force it to make a DC 15 Charisma saving throw, unless the umber hulk is incapacitated.

    Unless surprised, a creature can avert its eyes to avoid the saving throw at the start of its turn. If the creature does so, it can't see the umber hulk until the start of its next turn, when it can avert its eyes again. If the creature looks at the umber hulk in the meantime, it must immediately make the save.


    So if you look at it, say to attack it, you must make the save.  If you don't look at it and try to attack, all attacks would be at DIS since you can't see it and it gets ADV to attack you, since it is "unseen" by you.

    If I read the map correctly, only 2 or 3 wolves, maybe 4, can get within reach of the Umberhulk. How ever many can reach, that many will go. The rest of the wolves will watch for other threats. How many saves do you need? I will roll their attacks after their saves.

    If Warhol is not yet aware of the danger of looking at the umberhulk, then he will go to 15-M, attacking with primal savagery.

    The save isn't about awareness, sorry. The way I read the description that I c/p, everyone can just avert their eyes or not.

    I appreciate that, but the text doesn't really say anything about knowing or not, so I think everyone can just do it.

    ok the 4 wolves around the bug all roll d8s to see what they do while Confused.  I will just go ahead and roll to save time...

    here are the options of what can happen

    On a failed saving throw, the creature can't take reactions until the start of its next turn and rolls a d8 to determine what it does during that turn. On a 1 to 4, the creature does nothing. On a 5 or 6, the creature takes no action but uses all its movement to move in a random direction. On a 7 or 8, the creature makes one melee attack against a random creature, or it does nothing if no creature is within reach.

    at 3, the other Umber Hulk finally gets to play.  He was out of sight to the upper right also (presumably) digging a hole.  

    With the difficult terrain, he can't quite make it far enough to attack anyone, so he will DASH and hope his Confusion gaze aura does something for him

    As a bonus action, you give yourself advantage on your next attack roll on the current turn. You can use this bonus action only if you haven’t moved during this turn, and after you use the bonus action, your speed is 0 until the end of the current turn.


    Steady Aim only affects the "next attack" so the 2nd shot still has DIS, if you could roll that extra d20 when you get a chance.  the first shot hits!
