    @Alan and @Josh - both need a STR DC15 SV.  
    If you recall, the Beholder touched the top of the stairs and triggered a gust of wind trap that gave him some free movement down.  You both trigger the same trap on your way to the top of the stairs, since nobody declared they jumped over the last step or anything like that.  Failure will blow you back down the stairs and into the main room again.  no damage

    @Mike - I was asking because Zax activated a number of pressure plates which triggered the arrow traps.  He carefully backtracked to wake up Marvin and then activated a few more on his way up.  So....  if Marvin followed his path exactly, he would not trigger any further traps.   wink, nod, wink, nod



    Also - I was thinking that since Marvin used 2nd Wind first, he would have realized he was in the death cone and the healing didn't work.   He would not have used his Action to cast Cure Wounds.   Marvin can Dash or take another Action, if you wish.

    Walls sprout spectral appendages until initiative count 20 on the round after next. Any creature, including one on the Ethereal Plane, that is hostile to the tyrant and starts its turn within 10 feet of a wall must succeed on a DC 17 Dexterity saving throw or be grappled. Escaping requires a successful DC 17 Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check.

    So everyone needs to make a DC 17 Dex SV or failing that, 5ft of movement to get free via FoM

    sorry if this wasn't clear.  Vasyli is at the top currently.  The central chamber is the base elevation which is shared with the trapped hallways.  The stairways all go UP (9,12,3).  The Beholder trapped the top step with a wind gust to blow enemies back down into the center and he uses them as free movement down.

    I updated the map with elevations, so hopefully that helps

    Also, I don't think V needs to go down the steps at all.  He can move like 10ft to the corner and have LoS.  It takes his Action to cast the held LB spell.  Then he would have some movement left and his Bonus Action.

    Zormoxiph analyzes the situation.  The party can see the eyes on the walls looking around.  You realize that he can see the whole room with these, though they don't give him artificial LoS.   Zormoxiph decides to move away from the 2 threats that have both done damage to him and he chooses to engage the singular enemy.   sorry Warhol

    The party has secured the Arcane Tower.  What secrets does it hold?   Only time (and future DMs) will tell.   For now, the 3 friends earn a well-deserved rest and time to mourn the loss of their companions.


    The Dawi rejoice at the news that peace has returned to the Underdark, for however long it lasts.  The party will always be welcome in Grimhold.  In thanks, the Dawi offer to forge or upgrade a powerful magic item in the Grim Forge.

    In addition, Zormixph had 10,000 gold worth of loot in his lair.  His lair was a room 140ft above the encounter room (his cone has 150ft range so it filled the room in round 1).  He has a 1-way mirror there that he can teleport down to the combat room and choose 1 of the 3 mirrors.  The only way up is the vertical shaft above the bottomless pit (so flying).  

    He was also wearing 2 rings:

    Ring of Free Action - While you wear this ring, Difficult Terrain doesn't cost you extra Movement. In addition, magic can neither reduce your speed nor cause you to be Paralyzed or Restrained.

    Ring of Longstrider - movement speed increased by 10ft



    the combat room was designed by an egocentric and paranoid beholder.  so, of course, he designed it to look like himself.  The pinball represented the central eye and there were 9 extra eyes on the sides to represent the eye stalks.  All the hallways were trapped with pressure plates in the floors because the Beholder floats everywhere.  The stairways had blow-back traps to send enemies into the central chamber.

    I think the rings can go to Marvin and Warhol however they want them. Vasyli can or will be able to mimic those abilities in the coming levels.

    Vasyli wants adamantine armor, even if they just give the metal to him to forge new armor. Then he can make it his new armored suit after a long rest.

    Thanks, Mike!   Your Pirate adventure stole the show, so I am eager to see what you will cook up this time.  

    Zax is dust.  I was waiting to fill the gaps, depending on what the Josh and Alan do.  My real first choice is probably a sorcerer, aberrant mind like Qhu with a twist, but if we need a melee masher more, I will oblige.

    I assume new characters can have a similar starting package?
    1x +2 equivalent
    2x +1s
    +2 extra stat bump

    I think there are some extra misc items leftover


    I might just tweak Qhu and add 3 levels. It works for the story since he was only petrified...

    Qhu doesn't have any attunement items currently so he could take 1-2 wands. If Josh switches, he wont have any attuned items either.
    Remember, anyone can use wands, unless it says "attuned by an arcane caster" or something which many of the staves say

    Warhol is at maximum attunement. He doesn’t use armor or weapons so it’s harder to get good stuff that doesn’t need attunement.

    If anyone wants either wand, Warhol still has shiny metal circles to trade at the shop.

    Qhu will take the wands for now. Although, he could really use a ring/cloak of pro +1 too. So he would be happy to sell them too, if that left $ for a pro item.

    Qhu has Tongues spell, so you probably dont need helm of comp lang
