    I am in Rifle (down by Tim) for Evan's basketball tourney, so I can't update the map, but I will later tonight.

    Qhu can see the hallways and stairways radiating off away from the center.  The orb is floating in the air.  Qhu notices a long cylinder going straight up and beyond his vision in the ceiling.  It is 10ft in diameter and completely smooth.  Qhu isn't sure what could carve such a perfect cut in solid rock, other than maybe repeated disintegration rays.

    The hole in the floor is directly under the ceiling cylinder and appears to have been cut in the same way.  It drops down out of vision.

    The orb itself has maybe 100 small surfaces carved from the crystal. (Think a d100). They were probably also lasered by a disintegration ray.

    Anything else or done?

    Qhu tosses a coin to his witcher, but it falls silently into the abyss.

    at 15, the orb begins to spin.  Stone slabs drop at all the entry points to the room, sealing it off.  The orb accelerates with each revolution until the speed hurls it down to the floor and towards the trio in the room.  Lights flicker and reflect on the walls as the disco ball of death bears down on Marvin, Zax and Qhu.  Impact from the orb knocks victims prone unless they make a save for 1/2 damage.

    Dex SV for 1/2 damage + prone (unless immune)

    bludgeoning damage = 1d6+1 per 10ft of movement by the orb

    Result of the throw of dice "3d6 +3" :

    3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 12


    The orb bounces off the south wall and angles up\left.

    @Josh - correct, the other 3 are currently isolated in the entry room

    @Mike - uh... sure. I was thinking of the orb as more of a hazard than an "enemy", but if he wants to fire an arrow at it, he can go ahead. The arrow bounces off the orb with no apparent effect. It appears to be a solid\hard crystal.

    good idea!  I was hoping that you would try to use something from the belt at some point.

    Type: Adventuring Gear Cost: 4 gp Weight: 35 lbs
    You can use a portable ram to break down doors. When doing so, you gain a +4 bonus on the Strength check. One other character can help you use the ram, giving you advantage on this check.



    Vasyli can Ready an action to ram the door and wait for someone else to help, if you to use it with 2.  He would have to move to the door and draw the item (free interaction when used with move\action) now, of course.

    Vasyli and Warhol give the massive stone door a whack with the portable ram.  It definitely takes a chip out but it looks like it would take a good 30s - a minute to actually break through it.  (rams like that are really made for wooden doors).  


    at 0, some of the doors open back up.  This round, the doors that blocked the hallways open but the ones blocking the stairways up stay down.  Hmmm....

    Here is the current map.  The disco ball of death is slowly rolling around the room in real time.  Since this is a turn-based game, it can only move 15.  It is too wide to fit down any hallways or up any stairways.  It will pinball about in the central chamber presenting a persistent hazard.  The black circle indicates BOTH a hole into the abyss that you really don't want to fall down and also the vertical cylinder that goes up as far as the eyes can see.

    Marvin will move to O-16, use his bonus action to Dodge, and Ready his bow attack, triggered by the sight of an actual enemy. For clarity’s sake: hazards, puzzles, mystery boxes, conundrums, mcguffins, mcmuffins, constructs, and plot devices are exempt from this trigger.

    Ok, Marvin creeps around the corner with his bow drawn and eyes open.

    The walls of the hallways are disturbingly different than the smooth stone of the entry and pinball room.  The walls appear to be lined with or perhaps made up entirely of humanoid skulls.  The skulls are set both forwards and backwards.  They do appear to be unique skulls, not identical plaster-cast copies.

    Marvin can also see further down the hallway.  He sees another moving eye on the wall.  It looks like the hallway curves to his left.

    at 20, the Lair effect occurs

    A spectral eye opens in the air at a point within XX feet of the tyrant. One random eye ray of the tyrant shoots from that eye, which is considered to be an ethereal source, at a target of the tyrant's choice. The eye then closes and disappears.

    The spectral eye opens at roughly K-14.    First, we need to roll randomly to determine which eye ray it fires (its always random).  I was thinking it would be more fun (though slower) for the players to roll and see which rays you get.  If you want me to just roll, I can do that too to speed it up.  It doesn't matter who rolls.  The Beholder is very intelligent, so he will target whoever he thinks will have a weak save depending on which type of ray is rolled.

    **EDIT - ooops, I forgot about Marvin's PP!   Marvin notices that some of the eye holes look different, like they are concealing arrows or small spear tips.  Marvin suspects the hallway has some kind of trap but he doesn't know how it might be triggered.  A Search roll (investigation) would be required to figure out how it is triggered.  His Perception noticed that it is there.  Investigation is for deductions. ***

    Not exactly....  i noted the FoM spell would negate the reduction in speed, if you look a few posts up.  It doesn't do anything about losing Action/Reaction though which is really the danger from that ray.

    Read the description - it does exactly and only what it says it does

    Freedom of Movement
    You touch a willing creature. For the Duration, the target's Movement is unaffected by Difficult Terrain, and Spells and other Magical Effects can neither reduce the target's speed nor cause the target to be Paralyzed or Restrained.

    The target can also spend 5 feet of Movement to automatically Escape from nonmagical restraints, such as Manacles or a creature that has it Grappled. Finally, being Underwater imposes no penalties on the target's Movement or Attacks


    No difficult terrain
    Spells/magic cannot reduce speed
    Immune to paralyzed and restrained condition
    Can break grapple just by 5ft of movement
    No underwater penalty


    So the Slowing Ray does 2 separate things.  Speed reduction and Action reduction

    Slowing Ray. The targeted creature must succeed on a DC 17 Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, the target’s speed is halved for 1 minute. In addition, the creature can’t take reactions, and it can take either an action or a bonus action on its turn, not both. The creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.



    Nothing about FoM helps with the Action reduction.


    The only Ray it completely negates is the Paralyzing Ray.  It blocks the restrained part of Telekinesis (but you still get moved) and Petrification (but you still get turned to stone if you fail twice, as Petrification is not blocked as a condition.

    AC is 20 with 2H maul, he can't use shield

    Do you mean step between Qhu and the orb?  Marvin is down the hallway at 5 o'clock.  

    This is what it looks like in my mind.  If you were thinking something else, let me know.  I don't know that he could smack the ball towards 7 o'clock without stepping up on the dias to angle down.  It doesn't look like it will fit there either, just FYI.  It is designed to stay in the room.  I am happy to change the bounce angle though.  I figured he could knock it 1ft per pt of damage, so 30ft on 29 dmg.

    It does do damage to the orb, but not enough to destroy it.

    Good idea, but Beholders don't have hands, so Qhu finds no triggers by touching the skulls with the MH.  


    at 15, the disco ball gets to go!

    The doors around the central room slam down once again.  The ball has been accelerated by Zax's hammer and is currently travelling at 60ft per round.   It bounces off the right side and heads straight back at Zax!

    current speed 60ft\rd = 6d6+6 damage and DEX SV for 1/2 and being knocked prone (no help from FoM there either)

    affraid uh oh, Marvin and Qhu are in a bit of pickle....

    at 0, the doors open up.  the hallways remain blocked but the stairways open this time.

    All 3 of you get your Readied Dash actions, so you can move up to your speed once.  go ahead and declare your new positions.

Escaping requires a successful DC 17 Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check.

    so that is everyone except Zax that will need a Dex SV dc17 or be grappled, yes you can be grappled even with FoM but you can escape with only 5ft of movement instead of an Action

    Restrained
    A restrained creature’s speed becomes 0, and it can’t benefit from any bonus to its speed.
    Attack rolls against the creature have advantage, and the creature’s Attack rolls have disadvantage.

    Unconscious
