    Umber Hulk takes some damage from Marvin, final total being determined by 2nd shot, but it won't kill him either way, so he is going to act at 19  

    Multiattack. The umber hulk makes three attacks: two with its claws and one with its mandibles.

    UH gets 3 attacks using the Attack Action

    Using the Attack Action, you can make a Special melee Attack to shove a creature, either to knock it prone or push it away from you. If you’re able to make multiple Attacks with the Attack Action, this Attack replaces one of them.

    UH will use 1 attack and attempt to SHOVE Warhol into the bubbling poison pit 5ft away diagonally to N-17

    I did the SHOVE wrong, duh, I knew that didn't seem right

    The target must be no more than one size larger than you and must be within your reach. Instead of making an Attack roll, you make a Strength (Athletics) check contested by the target’s Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check (the target chooses the ability to use). If you win the contest, you either knock the target prone or push it 5 feet away from you.


    instead of attack rolls, its a contested Athletics vs Warhol's ATH or ACRO, which he doesn't have either of, so its just a STR or DEX roll

    Marvin finishes off the first Umber Hulk! Nice shootin' Tex


    study so the DM goofed up a bit... the UHs are not supposed to have DR. I think I must have looked at the stats for some homebrew variant of them initially when I was looking for variant pictures of them. So they were a bit harder to take down than they should have been. That being said... I have no doubt the party could wear down the second one over several rounds without taking much damage or losing any further resources.

    You did enough damage to kill 2 of them already, so let's just end the fight here as a total victory cheers


    Is there anything else the party wants to do in this area?

    The Mindflayers don't have any vulnerabilities that Marvin can detect, though they do not seem like a physically gifted race. If Marvin had to guess, they don't have prof in any physical saves and no physical resistances.


    Vasyli doesn't see any other Mindflayers about.

    The party can clearly see that the bugs were digging holes, no Perception check needed. But why?
    How about an Investigation roll?


    the Mindflayer is wearing a regular breastplate, carries no weapons though his tentacles look like weapons. It did have 2 potions (Rolled randomly)

    Nice rolls!  

    Given the terrain of the tunnel, it seems obvious that the Umber Hulks were being directed (mind controlled) by the Mindflayers to start digging pit traps and trap door ambush locations.  Now that you know what to look for, you expect to find more  such traps going forward.  

    The party can still hear the sound of running water up ahead in the darkness.  You are near to the end of the tunnels, as best as you can tell.  

    The wolves do not like the acrid smell of the bubbling poison pits.  They huff as they exhale the foul stench from their sensitive noses.  


    Anything else at this location or moving on?

    The party continues towards the end of the tunnel.  Marvin is easily able to spot disturbed ground and guide the group around the pitfalls without issue, thanks to solid investigation in the previous "room".

    There is a light at the end of the tunnel!  

    It looks like you are on the back side of a waterfall.  There is opaque light visible through the water.  The tunnel narrows to about 10 ft wide at the edge of a pool being fed by the waterfall.  The waterfall acts as a curtain into some unknown lit chamber beyond.  The waterfall and pool are roughly 50 ft wide\across.  You cannot tell the depth of the pool.  

    The party makes it safely to the edge of the rock tunnel - about where the photographer is in this picture.  Sorry to break immersion, but this is absolutely the image of what I had in mind, minus the person.

    It's really hard to see given that the light source is beyond the waterfall, so the light is reflecting off the pool. Anything you might see is hard to get a good look at since the reflection of the waterfall is moving and the surface of the water is moving too.

    “Gimme a few minutes.” Warhol hums a monotone, which becomes a harmonic as it interacts with the cavern and waterfall. Detect magic as a ritual.

    Also the wolves will sniff around the cavern and water first. After signaling any discoveries they then turn and look at the group as if to say goodbye. Warhol concentrates on the new spell as the wolves walk out of sight.

    The waterfall has a proximity trigger, but only on this side. Anyone that approaches within 5ft of it will trigger a defense blast of water that is designed to bash the target into the rocks below. If the swimmer resists such effect, it is still knocked "prone" by being pushed down in the water to the bottom (needing half movement to get out of it).

    There is probably some magic phrase or gesture or something for its creators, likely Mindflayers, to bypass it. It is likely transmitted via psionics\telepathy and would be in Undercommon. Without knowing that specific magic word, a Dispel Magic would shut it down for an hour.

    Vasyli dispels the enchantment on the waterfall. The magic of the Weave fades away, as if taking a short nap. The waterfall itself is unaffected but it is now just a natural cave feature. The waterfall combined with some poisonous gas fissures is what created the bubbling pools in the previous area.


    Athletics checks to swim under the waterfall?

    DC 8 if anyone wants to go that route.

    Warhol can hold his breath for an hour. He is a turtle. He will cast guidance to boost his stealth check. He will trudge under the waterfall and peek just his eyes out of the pool on the other side. “If I’m not back in a couple minutes, then they got me.”

    He fails his swim check but won’t drown. Might just sink to the bottom. But I think he should have a swim speed. That’s stupid.

    Warhol flounders about under the water.  He skins his knee on a rock and puts a couple scuffs in his shell.  He eventually gets his act together and makes it past the waterfall.   He breaks the surface tension of the water ever so carefully.  Just as in the previous cavern, the rocks are a good 3-5 feet above the top of the water.

    The pool and waterfall are in a massive cavern, many hundreds of feet high.  Warhol can see mushroom caps as big as human houses growing attached to the walls all the way up.  In the center of the cavern, he sees a tall tower.  The tower glows with arcane power.  There are pale blue fires in hanging braziers on each level.  Energy arcs like a Jacob's ladder between the braziers, stone 4-armed gargoyles and what look like large crystals set into the brick work.

    Warhol sees several.... things..... that look like a brain walking on four legs approach the pool. He is reminded of a pack of dogs on guard duty. They seem to wander about checking out their surroundings. Their tentacles flicker like a snake tasting the air with its tongue. They do not appear to notice Warhol in the pool.

    Warhol can boost the stealth of the group. Otherwise each of us might have individual abilities sufficient to pass by. Warhol could wild shape, V can be invisible. Does Marvin have a buff for this?
