    As far as i know that's fine. Use the action now.

    Decide your reaction later. Meriseil is next though, so you will have to make that decision before she rolls her attack either way.

    How do you want to Aid?

    You can simply make an attack roll at full bonus. Or you can make some kind of skill check like Deception or Intimidate.

    Source Core Rulebook pg. 470 4.0
    Trigger An ally is about to use an action that requires a skill check or attack roll.
    Requirements The ally is willing to accept your aid, and you have prepared to help (see below).
    You try to help your ally with a task. To use this reaction, you must first prepare to help, usually by using an action during your turn. You must explain to the GM exactly how you’re trying to help, and they determine whether you can Aid your ally.

    When you use your Aid reaction, attempt a skill check or attack roll of a type decided by the GM. The typical DC is 20, but the GM might adjust this DC for particularly hard or easy tasks. The GM can add any relevant traits to your preparatory action or to your Aid reaction depending on the situation, or even allow you to Aid checks other than skill checks and attack rolls.

    Critical Success You grant your ally a +2 circumstance bonus to the triggering check. If you’re a master with the check you attempted, the bonus is +3, and if you’re legendary, it’s +4.

    Meriseil gets a +2 to her attack roll, which she will now take.

    Ok, the fight is over.  The corpse of the Ogre lies at your feet.  The old sage is tied up by the cave entrance.  Searching the cave is a Perception check.  Body robbing doesn't need a check, nor does freeing the sage.

    If Seelah uses her Lay on Hands now, she can spend her "short rest" to Refocus and get her Focus Point back Wink



    After this quick clean-up scene, the party gets a "short rest" which has its own mechanics in PF2e.

    First things first, healing Meriseil.

    Seelah uses LoH for 6hp.

    Kyra casts 1 of her 3 extra Heal spells. Now she could choose to cast as a 3 AP spell to heal everyone in a 30ft burst, but nobody else is hurt. So if she uses the 2 AP version, it is a better single target effect

    [two-actions] (verbal, somatic) The spell has a range of 30 feet. If you’re healing
    a living creature, increase the healing by 8.
    • [three-actions] (material, verbal, somatic) You disperse positive energy in a 30-
    foot aura. This targets all living and undead creatures in the burst.


    3+8 = 11
    plus LoH = 6

    Meriseil is back up to full.





    This is technically exploration mode, yes. Generally speaking, PF2e allows their version of a "Short Rest" after most fights. PF2e Short Rest only takes 10 minutes.

    During this time, there are LOTS of things people can do and will usually want to do after each fight if time allows.


    Short Rest activities each take 10 minutes and have the Exploration Tag, but are not the continuous activities like you selected before.

    Treat Wounds (not needed now)

    Repair Shield - if your shield took a hit and was damaged\broken but not destroyed, you could make a Crafting check and repair the HP damage.

    ReFocus - Seelah can get her 1 Focus Point back that she just spent on LoH.
    If Ezren had used his Focus Spell, he could recover it.

    Search the Cave - this also takes 10 minutes.



    Cave
    The cave beyond is dank, small, and home to copious mushrooms
    and mold nourished by the great piles of waste the ogre has been
    throwing down the hole. Only by sifting through the refuse and
    offal (which takes 10 minutes and a successful DC 12 Perception
    check) will the characters find a handful of precious items
    within: a finely crafted ivory chess piece worth 10 gp, an onyx
    dog wondrous figurine (Core Rulebook 576), a potency crystal
    (Core Rulebook 169), a crying angel pendant (Core Rulebook
    566), and 5 gp, 10 sp, and 8 cp.




    Lazino thanks the party for saving him. He has no idea why Haanar would hire an ogre to kidnap him and assumes that the outcast must have some foul plan for him.





    onyx dog wondrous figurine - Each one of these statuettes is 1 inch in height, carved from a specific material and taking the shape of a particular animal or animals.

    Activate command, Interact; Effect You activate the statue by placing it on solid ground and then speaking its name, causing the statuette to transform into a living creature or creatures. In creature form, the figurine has the minion trait. It can understand your language and it obeys you to the best of its ability when you use an action to command it. The specifics of each creature, as well as the activation’s frequency (if any), appear in its entry below.

    If the figurine is slain while in animal form, it reverts to its statue shape and cannot be activated again until 1 week has passed. If the figurine is destroyed in statue form, it is shattered and its magic is lost.

    Activate envision; Trigger You make an attack with the affixed weapon, but you haven't rolled yet
    This fluorite crystal glows with a strange phosphorescence. When you activate the crystal, the weapon becomes a +1 striking weapon for the rest of the turn, gaining a +1 item bonus to the attack roll and increasing the damage on a hit to two weapon damage dice.

    When you activate this alabaster pendant, your critical failure becomes a normal failure instead.

You use Recall Knowledge as a secret check to discover clues among the various things you can see and engage with as you journey along. You can use any skill that has a Recall Knowledge action while Investigating, but the GM determines whether the skill is relevant to the clues you could find.

    So it looks like it can (usually) only be done with knowledge skills. I am not sure what Survival would tell you that Nature wouldn't cover.

    You could Investigate the nearby Standing Stones with Religion, Arcane or Occult.


    The following skills can be used to Recall Knowledge, getting information about the listed topics. In some cases, you can get the GM's permission to use a different but related skill, usually against a higher DC than normal. Some topics might appear on multiple lists, but the skills could give different information. For example, Arcana might tell you about the magical defenses of a golem, whereas Crafting could tell you about its sturdy resistance to physical attacks.

    Arcana: Arcane theories, magical traditions, creatures of arcane significance, and arcane planes.

    Crafting: Alchemical reactions and creatures, item value, engineering, unusual materials, and constructs.

    Lore: The subject of the Lore skill's subcategory.

    Medicine: Diseases, poisons, wounds, and forensics.

    Nature: The environment, flora, geography, weather, creatures of natural origin, and natural planes.

    Occultism: Ancient mysteries, obscure philosophy, creatures of occult significance, and esoteric planes.

    Religion: Divine agents, divine planes, theology, obscure myths, and creatures of religious significance.

    13 is just a failure which does not adjust his attitude either way. Hanaar remains Unfriendly.

    Ezren didn't use his Focus spell so there is nothing to recover. He spent the 10 minutes searching the cave which you declared and found the 3 minor magic items.

    The Focus spell is the one that refreshes after each fight, so that really should be used regularly.  I admit, the generalist spell on this pre-gen isn't the best, but its not the worst either.

    But if you had 3 fights per adventuring day.... you could cast your Focus spell each time (3) plus 1 first spell 3 times (2 + drain item) plus all your cantrips. So 2 spells (focus + 1st) for each fight, plus cantrips.

    Its better than a cantrip, slightly weaker than a 1st level spell. But it refreshes every fight. Not sure why you think its worthless.

    Meriseil double strides forward and throws her knife at Hanaar. Since he hasn't acted yet, she gets to use her Surprise Attack feature which makes him FF to her, so she can Sneak Attack, if she hits. Thrown dagger has a 10ft range increment, so she is -2 due to range of 20ft but +2 due to FF

    ouch.   Ok, so remember on a nat1, the degree of success is reduced by 1.  a 10 is just a failure, but it becomes a critical failure due to the nat 1.


    study  There is usually no additional penalty for a Critical Failure on attack rolls.
    Per PHB p10,

    Similarly, failing the check by 10 or more is a critical failure (sometimes called a fumble). This sometimes results in additional negative effects. [...] Note that not all checks have a special effect on a critical success or critical failure and such results should be treated just like an ordinary success or failure instead.

    Because, as you noted, there is no Critical Failure entry for Strike Actions, there is no additional penalty without some other ability being in use.

    The Fighter Feat Dueling Riposte is an example of a situation that changes this.

    Trigger A creature within your reach critically fails a Strike against you.

    There are also abilities baked into some Bestiary creatures (however they seem generally rare at the time of this writing). The Gimmerling (Bestiary p177) is one such example.

    Trip Up [reaction] Trigger A creature critically fails a melee attack to hit the gimmerling or moves into a space within the gimmerling’s treacherous aura.

    @Alan - not to nit-pick, but... how do you count Seelah getting to W-18?

    Seelah made her save, so she doesn't have the -10 speed penalty, but the entire area of the Entangle is still difficult terrain, meaning any square the area of effect touches counts as 10ft per square.

    I assume you meant for her take Stride twice, but even so, I can't see her getting farther than about T-15 or so.

    Her first move is 10ft no matter which way she moves. If she goes diagonal twice, the 2nd move is also 10ft. 3rd step is O-14 at best, from the way I see it. She has a couple paths depending on whether you take more diagonals or not, but I don't think she can get anywhere near striking distance.


    Do you see a different path or want to amend your actions?

    Seelah can use athletic rush to get +10 to speed. A stride is part of that spell action.

    So:
    Athletic Rush and 35’ stride>
    Second stride action for 35’ >
    Attack >

    Does that work correctly? I think including diagonals and difficulty terrain penalties that is 70’ Maybe even 65’ depending on how you adjudicate the edges of the circle if Seelah goes due East to the cliff face before moving diagonally.

    Hanaar is not enjoying his current position any more.

    You carefully move 5 feet. Unlike most types of movement, Stepping doesn't trigger reactions, such as Attacks of Opportunity, that can be triggered by move actions or upon leaving or entering a square. You can't Step into difficult terrain, and you can't Step using a Speed other than your land Speed.

    Ok, Ezren will move to T-5 out of the Entangle.

    He will then hurl his staff at Hanaar and cast Hand of the Apprentice.

    Ouch, critical failure is double damage!

    Shield Block is only vs physical damage, though it can be improved with feats at higher levels


    As a player character, when you are reduced to 0 Hit Points, you’re knocked out with the following effects:
    You immediately move your initiative position to directly before the turn in which you were reduced to 0 HP.
    You gain the dying 1 condition. If the effect that knocked you out was a critical success from the attacker or the result of your critical failure, you gain the dying 2 condition instead. If you have the wounded condition, increase your dying value by an amount equal to your wounded value. If the damage was dealt by a nonlethal attack or nonlethal effect, you don’t gain the dying condition; you are instead unconscious with 0 Hit Points.


    I think Seelah is dying 2 due to the hit being critical. She moves to 24* initiative
