    I don't think you can split a turn like that. Brock took his Action, so he is at this initiative now and is done, or he has to Move\Bonus Action now.

    The opposite works, he could move, use his bonus action and then use the Ready action to set a trigger for a later event. But he can't take an action, then wait to move.

    just like your baddies did - they moved and Readied an action, probably something like, "attack any enemy that gets within range" or whatever

    Zax is delaying his entire turn, which moves him down the initiative list permanently.


    I mean, you are the GM, so I guess you can do whatever, but making that a rule really complicates and slows things down.

    Not trying to rules lawyer, but for my own benefit of understanding, I thought in 5e there is no “hold” action, only “ready” action with a trigger and a response?

    well damn, Mike is right! I'm sorry, there have been so many damned variations of this game that I still get that one confused, even when I just looked it up the other day. lol

    Invisibility (if that's what this is) is one of the trickier rules to deal with in 5e.  Just so we are all on the same page, here is the status description (emphasis mine):

    Invisible

    An invisible creature is impossible to see without the aid of magic or a Special sense. For the Purpose of Hiding, the creature is heavily obscured. The creature’s Location can be detected by any noise it makes or any tracks it leaves.

    Attack rolls against the creature have disadvantage, and the creature’s Attack rolls have advantage.




    so if she moved, Marvin (or anyone) could have heard her
    Chopper or the wolves can use their sense of smell to locate her, probably easier than us hearing her

    regardless of knowing her location, all attacks are at Disadvantage against her (that need attack rolls) and all her attacks gain Advantage since she is "unseen"  (which is different than "hiding")

Technically, she moved on her turn, and Marvin wasn't in the room... so actually, she hasn't moved at all since then and nothing would have heard a sound. But he can try attacks at a disadvantage

    Ok, so while we’re getting into RAW, here is the text from Hunter’s Mark:
    You choose a creature you can see within range and mystically mark it as your quarry. Until the spell ends, you deal an extra 1d6 damage to the target whenever you hit it with a weapon attack, and you have advantage on any Wisdom (Perception) or Wisdom (Survival) check you make to find it.

    So, the Invisible text says the creature is impossible “to see”, but allows for other means of detection (sounds & tracks). The HM text states “to find”, which is a more general term than relying on sight alone.

    Would the DM concede that the Hunter’s Mark Advantage allows for a means of detection that does not rely on sight?

    The rules for invisible are pretty specific about "not being seen" and disadvantage. At least that's how I read it... I checked online and yes, it seems that you can locate her (as you rolled well enough with Perception and I gave the location) but the attack will still be at disadvantage from everything I saw online about this.

    Does that answer things for you sufficiently?

    Yep. Marvin will attack twice with Disadvantage, but will use his bonus action to employ Steady Aim, providing Advantage on attacks in exchange for reducing his movement to 0 for the rest of the turn and negating the Disadvantage from Invisibility.

    SO, all the way around the block to get back to two standard attack rolls for Marvin against the witch 😄

    From PHb: “Taking damage. Whenever you take damage while you are concentrating on a spell, you must make a Constitution saving throw to maintain your concentra tion. The DC equals 10 or half the damage you take, whichever number is higher. If you take damage from multiple sources, such as an arrow and a dragon’s breath, you make a separate saving throw for each source of damage.”

    DC is 10 for 14 damage  (14/2=7   7<10)

    I believe the top wolf can just get to 1-2 F-G with 50’ movement if rough terrain counts double. The other one would go to 4-5 F-G with 10’ to spare. (This 10’ is important).

    ***Grappling: They want to drag her out from behind the pillar.

    For expediency, here’s grappling from phb:

    Grappling
    When you want to grab a creature or wrestle with it, you can use the Attack action to make a special melee attack, a grapple. If you’re able to make multiple attacks with the Attack action, this attack replaces one of them. The target of your grapple must be no more than one size larger than you, and it must be within your reach.

    Using at least one free hand, you try to seize the target by making a grapple check, a Strength (Athletics) check contested by the target’s Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check (the target chooses the ability to use). If you succeed, you subject the target to the grappled condition (see appendix A). The condition specifies the things that end it, and you can release the target whenever you like (no action required).

    Escaping a Grapple.
    A grappled creature can use its action to escape. To do so, it must succeed on a Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check contested by your Strength (Athletics) check.

    Moving a Grappled Creature.
    When you move, you can drag or carry the grappled creature with you, but your speed is halved, unless the creature is two or more sizes smaller than you.

    The grapple will not do damage.

    Wolf #2 has movement left and can drag the witch one square out of cover. Wolf number 1 can’t move. He will let 2 drag the witch if they both have her but will stay in contact.

    Let’s give Josh a chance to chew on that since rules probably need to be discussed but I believe this is all legal.

    Warhol will go after the wolves’ actions are settled.

    The second one hits... however, that's his attack and she uses her Reaction to cast Hellish Rebuke (which is a reaction spell) she upcasts it at 4th level:

    5d10 to that dire wolf.

    the wolf gets a Dex save for half damage: DC 17

    I believe, however, that she gets dragged 5'? Can someone confirm my reasoning on this?

    Zax is a bit worried about this Malorcha fella. He uses Blessing of the Raven Queen to teleport to L7 and plays samuri baseball with the statue.

    Does the destruction of the statue affect the smoke coming out of the portal? IE is it stopping or slowing down the ritual

    If yes, Zax will move to L9 and smack another statue.
    If no, Zax will remain at L7 and attack the 1/2 dragon

    I should have been more specific in my narrative - it came out as 'bodies of smoke' if that makes sense?

    They came out at the beginning of the round. Nothing is coming out at the moment....

    So if I am reading this correctly....

    the bodies of smoke are not continuously emerging, but something that comes out and then stops

    when Zax smashed 1 statue there was no visible change at that moment

    however, it seems Zax was correct that the statues do affect the smoke coming from the portal, as now there are only 4 wisps + 4 statues, but that was not observable until the start of the turn


    does that all sound correct?

    yes, I was just about to clarify that... they come out in a group and then seem to travel through the ceiling and disappear. I should have been more clear about that
