Virgil will anchor himself as best as possible on the rocks.  (move action) Virgil will stow his Spencer and extend both his arms in the general direction of Stormcrow and John Henry.  "Freya be with you" he mutters a quiet prayer under his breath as a purple glowing rope shoots out 30ft, diagonally down into the water.  Virgil holds the other end of the rigid rope.

Animate RopeM: You conjure a 30-ft-long magic rope into your hand. On your verbal command as a standard action, it extends rigidly to afford climbing.

Virgil is trying to give JH\Stormcrow something rigid to grab and use to climb at least to the surface, if not out of the river. Virgil is 15ft away and I think you said the river was 10ft deep, so the rope should reach them

Virgil conjures a rope between himself and the two submerged allies. However, the rope is not taut, and the other end is at the mercy of the current. An Acrobatics check is required by any of the submerged characters trying to grab a hold of the end.

Is Virgil done with his turn?

Also, still waiting on JH's decision how/if he spends a FP...

    Neraka is up.

John Henry is not a creative man. In his experience, all most problems need is some elbow grease.

He bends down and attempts to lift the rock free so that Stromcrow is no longer pinned.

I think with a double move, Neraka can swim up close to her. He, or JH, or anyone who tries to rescue her, must spend a standard action to grab her safely.

Whoops. I see that you meant for the rope to be rigid and it does say that in the power description, so never mind about it not being taut. Interesting. The rope is sitting there rigid, sticking in the water, and Virgil is holding onto his end, trying to anchor it.

This is turning into a very cinematic rescue operation!

cool, I wondered about that, but I could see it both ways.

I imagine the rope acting like a ladder, usually intended to climb up, so it is rigid and if put on the ground vertically, it would hold itself upright, thus rigid, like a pole

By the same token, if I put one end of a 30ft pole in the water, I agree that the current would act upon that end and try to carry it downstream, so I didn't object to your interpretation. However, being magical, it might not.

I think the only way it would be truly taut is if you ruled that the end of the rope made contact with the river bed, thus anchoring it on that end, with Virgil anchoring the other end.

I think a check is appropriate either way for a person, also subject to the current, to have to roll to grab the a pole in the water.

Per Olistaff's order, Jay and Bob continue their seperate moves towards the surrendering prisoner. Bob is on the opposite bank, and is not sure if he should cross the rapid river. "Beep... Forgive... me... Master... This... one... can... not... advance... Will... commence... assistance... procedure... beep." and he moves to 0-2 and to offer his help to Monk.

Jay continues down the shore line, passing by Kai and Niyol and ending at A-17.

Klandor and Vyrm stay where they are, as they have been doing. Bill is resting on the rocks besides his canoe. He succeeded at his Heal check and is recuperating.

    Bandits:
~The guy at L-1 is still unconscious and bound.
~The guy at C-10 is standing in the open, with his hands on his head, appearing to surrender. He watches things progress. "It's a good day to die," he says, "And a good day for dynamite fishing!" He grabs a bundle of dynamite that had been stuffed inside his belt on his backside. It was previously lit and the fuze is nearly finished. He tosses the dynamite at E-18. The blast catches Stormcrow, John Henry, and Neraka.
29 vs Ref = 24 damage and be stunned.

Luckily, Virgil, Kai and Niyol are just outside the blast radius. Virgil's magic rope is burnt.

Candy lights up the guy's square with canon fire.
Oli is welcome to take his shot (held action). The bandit is wounded, but still standing.

    Navajos:
The four remaining tribe folk have converged on the riverbank. They are aghast at the explosion before them, but proceed with their rescue plan. Yiska and Warpath hold the rope, which is tied around Niyol's waist. He and Kai jump in the water, seeking out survivors. "Kill that scum! Get him, Jay!" shouts Warpath. He can barely contain his rage, for he wants to throw a spear at the bandit, but he must help hold the rope, or more of his friends may be lost.

Stormcrow is either unconscious or dead, difficult to say for certain in the chaos.

The fuze was already lit, from when he walked out from behind the boulder, but Oli did see him throw. I accounted for delayed actions... 17 damage, cool. Candy hit him too. He's still up.

Good question! The blast would have knocked the air out the characters. I think Endurance checks are in order, to continue holding breath, or begin drowning. Make checks on their turn.

Traveler Monk can hardly believe what he just witnessed...

    TREACHERY!

He focuses his energy and leaps like a tiger from his position in the shallows of the river to beside the deceitful bandit.

He lands beside the wounded man and in one fluid motion pounces upon him, dragging him to the ground, looking for a strangle hold around his throat..

    (Rakasha jump to E-4.)

    ( Trade move action for 2nd standard action- Grapple attempt: 1d20 + 15 (16+15)=31.)

If successful, Monk will pounce upon the man and wrestle him to the ground. With his free hand, he will begin to try to suffocate him into unconsciousness.

Well, you can't trade a Move action for a Standard. It kind of goes Stnd > Move > Swift. You can switch for a lower action, but not higher. But Monk can spend a FP, and he'll be all good.

On a side note, I don't know if strangulation/suffocation is really a good act.  Evil or Very Mad

Pretty soon, JH will be up. Since the dynamite blast stunned him and knocked the wind out of him, He'll need to make an Endurance check to keep holding his breath,

If he fails, here's the drowning rules (again):
"No drowning rules in Radiance, so kludging from 3.5 DMG (p. 304): A character can hold his breath for a number of rounds equal to twice his Constitution modifier. After that, they begin drowning. First round they go unconscious and 0 hit points; second round -1 wound points, third round they die."

Monk puts the bandit in the sleeper hold. The man fights back, struggling for air.

Next round, on his turn, he gets an Endurance check.

Virgil probably doesn't know that anyone was KO'd by the blast, so he will continue to hold his end of the rope hoping someone will grab the end in the water

You posted that I was up at 11 or so last night.  Ive been with my wife (on her Birthday) most of the day and doing business this afternoon. Chill, dog.

JH is stunned, which means I cant do any thing anyway.

Also -JH took a potion of water breathing ( post n#232) before he jumped in the river, no endurance check needed.

Right. Well, I admit, am getting somewhat anxious, hoping to wrap things up for now... so I won't make you guys sweat it out anymore with the possibility of drowning or problematic prisoners. Initiative is over.

Virgil doesn't need to keep holding the rope, since the part of it that was sticking in the water is quite burnt, frayed, and not really useful anymore, at least for hauling up injured folk.

We shall say Neraka and John Henry manage to exit the river, with some help from the Navajos.

Stormcrow is dead. The remaining Navajos prefer to burn their deceased along the river bank. There is only 1/3 left of the initial medical supplies that the expedition began with.

There are two prisoners. Feel free to question or torture them... but they volunteer nothing, only name and rank. The one guy who threw the dynamite is named Lt. Dan. He is wounded and may die if not healed in some way. The other guy is known as Col. Cole and has woken up.

The party is welcome to grab whatever weapons, equipment and dynamite that remains. There are 8 undamaged canoes. Please figure out logistics for the remainder of the journey.

Ray is still frozen (in mid-stride) at the bottom of the river.

If the party doesn't take too long with things (Ray's rescue, looting, questioning prisoners, and the funeral proceedings), the party should be able to make it to the Navajo village by nightfall.

Chances are, Monk will not wanna know how the prisoners are interrogated...

So he makes surr his other prisoner is secure and then off and see if he can be of service to eiyher the Navajos or to Oli, in case he wants to get his toy back out of the river. If no one wants his assistance, he will pray for the dead.

GM burnout is serious issue effecting 9/10 forum GMs. We will be starting an awareness campaign to bring attention to this emerging crisis in American gaming. Remember players - only YOU can prevent GM burnout!

Out of combat, oli feels helpless to assist ray. He takes a canoe across to get everybody on the same side. Then, "jay, bob, would you please begin work building a barge out of large branches and rope. I will show you. Candy, would you please keep watch; when we get ray out we will need to work on him for a bit."

Ray is back on dry land. Mechanics check needed to get him running again.

Jay and Bob start to work building a barge, per Oli's instructions.

The summoned ergo disappears (after two minutes) back to the outer plane of Mechanus, the secret realm of constructs, both living and non.

Virgil suggests, "We should give the prisoners to the Navajo, they attacked the tribe on their land, destroyed their medical property and killed only their people. I know if someone attacked Pestilence, I would want the final say in how justice was done. I may not agree with their ways, but this is their territory and the prisoners should be subject to their laws. Under the Arizona Constitution, I cannot offer them asylum unless they are willing to cooperate."

Virgil says this loudly enough for the prisoners to hear, in the hopes it changes their minds about talking to him.

yeah, time for some healing, whenever he gets a chance, Neraka will heal after a minute of rest (and being back in normal form).

unless something happens to interrupt it, Second Wind: 4d6 vitality regained after a minute.
