Re: chapter 3 - The Ranger's Request
At most 1-2 people took 1 extra bleed damage, but that was it.
the fight was worth 120 xp
170\1000 towards level 3
just as a reminder
anything else you want to do before checking out the not-creepy cave under the tree?
remember "treat wounds" as a medicine check heals 2d8\4d8 crit
there are also cleric feats that improve healing like Healing Hands, Magic Hands, etc
craft to repair shields?
those "short rests" are only 10 minutes
Herger digs about in the roots of the plants and finds mixed coins totaling 12gp
the fight was worth 120 xp
170\1000 towards level 3
just as a reminder
The path continues toward the rotting
remains of a truly titanic tree and, under its roots,
there appears to be a small cave.

Grimgar
Stat Block:
HP: 27/28
AC: 19 Breastplate (17 quilted)
+2 with raised shield
Fort: 7
Reflex: 5
Will: 8
Move: 20’
Initiative/Perception: +6
“Let me see that wound, kid,” Grim says to Herger in a gruff tone of camaraderie.
Grim heals a DC 15 with Assurance
Result of the throw of dice "2d8" :
6 + 6 = 12
You can fix that shield while I work on Jace.” Then to the Elf, “sure you don’t want some armor? Ouch!”
Result of the throw of dice "2d8" :
8 + 3 = 11
Z should be at 28hp. “You want me to look at that?” Grim is clear in tone that he is leaving his own small wound alone as negligible.

Re: chapter 3 - The Ranger's Request
GM = As I re-read the thread, good catch.
"After you" generates panache when you burn 1 AP and go last. You expend panche to use "Confident finisher": Zontreaux did both on turn 1.
Zontreaux then declared "After you" in the second round, but didn't burn it.
So yes, I had an additional AP to burn in that 3rd round. I was in a rush headed out the door and goofed it.
"Mezzon Grimgar...a stitch?"
Zontreuax needs some healing

Assurance for healing on Zontreaux.
Result of the throw of dice "2d8" :
7 + 3 = 10
That means we took a half hour break. “My shield is only scuffed a little. We should check in with the Elf woman before we check the cave.”

I thought we only went up a small hill and back down. Should be able to see her from the edge of the map? Mr. DM?
It isn’t a big deal. It’s a professional courtesy for role playing purposes but not a mechanical necessity.

Noala is off setting up snares. She is not near the party.
Old, clean map. Party is hanging out in the clearing where the bushes were
The cave entrance is on the current map at about B 3-5
@Matt - check "after you" again. The trigger is "roll initiative" so it only works on round 1. You can't keep using it for free panache. You use it instead of rolling jnitiative, go last permanently and get free panache in rd 1 only.

Hey all, I rolled a 1 on my CON save and caught the "back to school" crud that Evan had last week. I was up all night coughing, aching, too hot, too cold....
I will pick up the story in a day or two when i feel better. Evan had about a 48hr turnaround, so i am hopeful for the same.

Re: chapter 3 - The Ranger's Request
Howdy folks!
I got a full night's sleep and I am starting to feel better (wicked cough aside). I do seem to have lost my sense of taste, which they said was a side-effect of Paxlovid.
I am still not quite ready to resume and it sounds like Matt is being a ranger anyways.
I did want to give you all something to chew on in the meantime. I apologize that I missed this when you went to 2nd and I did intend to explain it.
Please give a read through "multiclassing" which is done by taking a X-class Dedication feat at 2nd.
https://2e.aonprd.com/Traits.aspx?ID=115
so for example, if you take the Rogue Dedication (multiclassing into rogue)
Rogue Dedication
Feat 2
Archetype Dedication Multiclass
Source Core Rulebook pg. 229 4.0
Archetype Rogue
Prerequisites Dexterity 14
You gain a skill feat and the rogue’s surprise attack class feature. You become trained in light armor. In addition, you become trained in Stealth or Thievery plus one skill of your choice; if you are already trained in both Stealth and Thievery, you become trained in an additional skill of your choice. You become trained in rogue class DC.
this lets you pick up other Rogue feats at later levels as listed
Rogue Dedication Leads To...
Basic Trickery, Evasiveness (Rogue), Skill Mastery (Rogue), Sneak Attacker, Uncanny Dodge
Special You cannot gain another dedication feat until you have gained two other feats from the rogue archetype.
This is written as an either\or choice at 2nd - either a Dedication feat or your class feat for 2nd.
However, there is an optional rule that allows BOTH. The Dedication feat is basically free and you can still make your class feat selection as normal. Based on some quick internet research, this option is used by more than 80% of the PF2E tables. Much like in 5e at 4th level taking a feat is actually an optional rule. That rule is used by 90+% of 5e tables.
Go ahead and read through the multiclass section and take a x-class dedication feat of your choice. Feel free to shuffle your stats, if needed, which you just had the chance to do at 2nd anyways.
This is optional. So if you don't want to mess with, just ignore it. Remember, pf2e builds horizontally not vertically. So all you are missing is more choices - more skills, more abilities, etc. You aren't missing any +s to hit.

I believe you can take a Dedication Feat OR a normal feat if you get one at 2nd level. It's not a bonus... unless that's what Chris is saying?

Took Barbarian Dedication. Now he's a raging Viking (soon to have a katana).
Alan, I would have to be against anything resembling gestalt characters. That was beyond broken unless it was just 2 characters/players.

nah, we've got the extra wizard, which kinda saved our ass in the last fight. I don't think it works for three characters. You can pretty much do it all with three, just barely. But that's my two dinarii

oh, yeah that is pretty cool. I think that would be ideal if there were 2 PCs in a party to make the characters more well-rounded. I love that you can even do that in pf2e and it doesn't really make them "stronger" it just gives them more options.

After dealing with the bushes, the characters are free to explore the den underneath the old, rotting tree. Herger - defend
Zontreaux - scout

Grim - ?
Zontreaux can enter fine but everyone else will have to crawl.

Crawl

Requirements You are prone and your Speed is at least 10 feet.

Re: chapter 3 - The Ranger's Request
Zontreaux straightens his jacket and collar, then draws both rapier and kurki and enters the tunnel.

“I suppose that depends on where you feel safest, Master Jace. Yer good in the open, but maybe not so much up close? If anyone comes in behind us…”
Put Grim last just in case.

The narrow tunnel is slick with foul-smelling mud. It leads down into a cramped den lit by a shimmering pool of oily water. The chamber stinks of wet fur and sickness. Next to the pool, between the gnarled and dying tree roots, is the rotting carcass of what must have once been a truly gigantic wolf. Nosing around it is a pair of hairless mutant wolves, their bodies deformed by large pustules and tumors. Although they have no eyes, they clearly detect your presence, for they turn their heads at you and snarl.
I paused right at the point of contact. Everyone except Z is still packed tightly in the tunnel. There is no light inside the den, so it is completely dark unless you have some type of superior vision as nobody light a torch before entering the dark tunnel.
Only Z can actually see inside the den or see the mutant wolves. The rest can only see the ass in front of them

Re: chapter 3 - The Ranger's Request
"The lead is yours, Mezzon" says Zontreuax, deferring to Heger.
"There are two wretched wolves, perhaps blind but still able to sense us."
