It is listed as a magic item so I'd say yes, for purposes of detection it would give off a magic aura.

I ask because there are things you can do to non magic items that you cannot do to magic items.

Roger that, Artificer is big on that - infusions must be put on a non-magical item for example. My cangle as a GM would be that since it is listed specifically as a magic item, it is treated as such for all intents and purposes

Hey guys, catching up on this thread and it seems there’s a new campaign brewing. Is this in addition to the next Pirates chapter or instead of? Joe and I have been talking transition of Pirates to yours truly for the next chapter as DM. Totally understand if everyone wants a break though...

Mike, Captain Hawkes is up for more adventure. It’s seldom that we get to keep characters so long. That said, if others have different priorities I am almost as eager to play my Robot.

Re: OoG during Pirates
a couple thoughts....
Tomb of Annihilation is a module and I don't have to do any prep work for it. I am happy to run it or keep playing the Pirates game. I am running it for my table-top game currently. It is nasty good fun! I am already enjoying the content so I don't feel any pressure to "get my money's worth".
I am really enjoying having Joe as a GM. His style is polished and new. Matt, Josh, Rob and I have been together on the forum for so long now, that it is really nice to have some fresh ideas and energy. Mike is the only GM to have killed more than 1 of my PCs, so I would welcome him as storyteller at some point, if he has time.
I am the main GM for my table-top group, so I am grateful for the chance to be a player here.

Your memory is better than mine. Which characters did I kill back in the day?
I will admittedly be rusty as a DM, but I’m really enjoying the Pirate campaign and have loved the different flavors we’ve had so far. I think it will be fun to put my own twist on it

Re: OoG during Pirates
I really like how the party has gelled and the character development t has been refreshing. I also see the pirate campaign as a way to keep fresh storylines going with rotating GM duties. That being said, if I had to choose one over the other I would pick Pirates. If I still had to GM pirates, I likely wouldn't have time to play and follow another game. As it stands, I would be happy to be a player in both.

Re: OoG during Pirates
agreed, best to only play 1 at a time on the forum
@Mike - you ran a short campaign in the apartment in Rockford you shared with Josh (I think). It was the one we celebrated NYE 1999 and the end of the world. I believe Matt projectile-vomited red wine that night
My first character was an elven druid that liked to stay in cheetah form. He was dead in 1 night to an ogre's club. His cavalier brother set out for revenge and died in the 2nd night. 2 PCs in the same game is truly impressive!

Im down for whatever, And am comfortable playing 2 games or playing 1/running 1 at this time. 1GB Fiber internet inbound T-4 days!
Brewing up a test encounter intended to develop a faster way of resolving combat for forum play. While a map will be used for reference, the combat will be mostly narrative and resolved simultaneously. Range bands will be described as "Close = Melee" "Distant = 30ft" "Far = 60ft". GM states the beginning ranges of the encounter (PCs begin located at FAR range from enemy) Whichever side wins initiative gets a surprise round. All party members declare their intended actions. (Fire at specfic creature, or type of creature, move to X range band, use ability, etc) and the GM resolves their actions as well as the creature actions, summarizing them all into one post. Repeat and rinse till encounter ends.
Ideally, we'd be able to test it with at least a full party of 4 PCs, but someone could run multiple PCs if needed. Yes, there will be a few hiccups to workout - its a test after all. I think it has the potential to add some momentum and dynamism to the play pace. Its not something I expect other GMs to adopt but am looking to use myself in the future. For minimum required prep, why not try one the 9th level builds we've been generating?
Additional: For ToA party selection, suggest that we throw all of the builds into a pool, and then talk about which might work best together to create a formidable party. Build the team from the ground up.

Ok, sounds like we press on with Pirates. I’ll politely excuse myself from ToA as running this next chapter will consume the free time I have to put towards gaming. Get your flippers* ready, boys.
*foreshadowing?? Perhaps...
@Chris: I DO remember cheetahbro. Can’t recall the second night, but that isn’t unusual for the tail end of (or any period within) the Wretched Excess era.

Rockford goes on break today. No word on after break yet. No confirmed cases here yet, but Boone may have one. Rockford is beginning to close public activities and recreational businesses.

Always thought I should build my retirement portfolio on whiskey, cigarettes, and toilet paper.
This article is a succinct and well cited explanation of the situation we are facing: https://www.propublica.org/article/this-coronavirus-is-unlike-anything-in-our-lifetime-and-we-have-to-stop-comparing-it-to-the-flu
@ Mike: Hope your trip was good, glad you made it back without incident.
@ Rob : Picard. Ugg. I haven't caught up since the space pimp costume episode. Will probably go back and binge it all when its done.
Nic Cage's "Color out of Space" is really solid, creepy, on target Lovecraft.
S2 of "Altered Carbon" was even better than first, cool to see cyberpunk being done right.
Going to DL and binge the new Clone Wars stuff soon!

Re: OoG during Pirates
We have 7 confirmed cases, all tourists from Australia, just like Aspen\Vail.
Schools closed until April 17th. Courts currently closed all week, probably getting extended. My college is closed, non-credits done for semester. Jamie's college is planning to resume next week since the hospital in Craig is still taking clinical students. 0 cases in Craig so far.
We need more nurses ASAP, so they are trying to finish the semester so the new batch can graduate, pass their test and get to work.
We are on WFH until further notice too. The kids are excited!

I know this was previously discussed, but I just wanted to offer it as an option again, now that we are all stuck in our houses....
in addition to Joe's game, I would be willing to run Tomb of Annihilation for anyone that wants\has mental capacity for a 2nd game. It could easily be run with a small group of even 2-3 players. The traps\puzzles are all the same and I could just scale down the fights if we have less than 4.
Again, I don't want to detract from Joe's game and story. I am really enjoying the boss fight!

I’m in given the circumstances. I still want Mike to feel free to take over Pirates when Joe is ready. If we need to suspend a campaign after the smoke clears we’ll discuss it whe we get there. Will be a good problem to have.

I still want Mike to run Pirates
I still want Pirates to be our main campaign, since it is story-driven
I am only offering relief during the Great Sequestration.

ok, time to blow up a myth.... Alan, there is only one case of that actually happening (that's documented) and it was the British, pre-American Revolution.
The US didn't need to use diseases vs. the Indians. We used laws, guns and wiping out the buffalo (in the west) to deal with them.
This link is pretty accurate on that subject:
